Alright so I'm fairly certain I have decided on a Pioneer TSSWX2502 pre-loaded 10" Sub down-firing under the 2nd row bench (lengthwise). The question is which amp should I pair with it...Part of the issue is I want an amp that I can mount on the top of the sub box to maximize the room I have elsewhere. According to a few sites it seems the TSSWX2502 is about 6" tall and I measure under the seat at roughly 9" on the conservative side. I am thinking I want a 5-channel amp with ~300w (+/- 50watt) RMS for the sub and then some flexibility to add 6x9s later if I want/need additional sound. I plan on using a speaker level input from the 3rd row speaker and haven't put much thought into how to power it.

I was looking at the Kenwood X801-5 and the GM-D9605. Based on SNR and max/rms output the GM-D9605 seems better to me and at 2" deep should fit with the sub enclosure.

I think I just have a case of looking at these things too long, thoughts?

TS-SWX2502

10" Shallow-Mount Pre-Loaded Enclosure

  • Tight bass from a shallow compact design
  • Reinforced MICA injection-molded resin preloaded subwoofer cone structure
  • Carpeted, non-slip and scratch resistant enclosure surface
  • Enclosure size (WxDxH): 18-5/8" x 13-7/8" x 6"
Man I haven't had a subwoofer since I blew mine out in the convertible 10 years ago! hmmm.....

Either one is fine. Are those ratings of rms wattage the new standard or the old nonstandard?

All amps are about 2" high. If it's touching carpet it may need more space for heat dissipation but not if you aren't gonna be pounding the pavement.

As my infant's carseat will be right above the pound will be minimal (typically). Both amps are CEA-2006 compliant so the stats should be relatively apples-to-apples. Side-note: I've never done a system of matched brands due to financial constraint or better alternative. Any advantages?

The question that I've thus avoided is 4ga vs. 6ga and should I do the add-on to the CCP to have 3x30a wired together and fused or direct to the battery and then fused using the ground near the middle of the floor? I've always had someone handle the power and I did the rest.

Should I give any thought to a cap or adding the second battery? The only other electronic accessory I'll probably add at some point will be fogs (as soon as the stars and moon align).

Caps have always been debatable. I've never noticed any improvements with them, especially at lower wattage levels. (under 1500w or so) . They are the sort of thing that makes people feel better but you can't really measure it. Like synthetic oil.

Second battery is only needed for listening with the engine off. Won't make any difference otherwise. Don't waste your money.
