Ignition Auto Cranking

The Transit ignition switch works like my Sprinter did...after positioning the key to start even for just a moment it continues to crank itself until engine start. None of my other cars do that, is this a new common method?

My parents' 2006 Audi does that as well. Only takes a momentary touch to the start position.

Problem is, I've gotten used to driving my girl's '08 Mini Cooper. With the wireless key and push button start. When I drive it for a few days its a bit odd to go back to my '99 Audi and have to unlock the car, and have the key out of my pocket.
