I know it's a personal decision, but I'm looking for some advice from current owners or other over-analyzers as I think I'm getting close to configuring my new Transit.

Here is what I am thinking:
  • Med-Roof, Long WB-I'm moving from a low-roof Sprinter Wagon to a Med-roof Transit Wagon (I can't live with a lower roof after having it for the past 6 years).
  • 12/15 seats. Right now I need 10, 2 adults/8 kids but could be more in the future and might as well spring the extra 950 to get 15 in case I ever want to use them...they can be stored otherwise
  • Ecoboost -since I'm used to Turbo-diesel mileage I think the Eco is the closest I'll get to it, I do not want to mess with diesel anymore
  • Rear A/C-Midwest summers can get hot and sometimes my van is a mobile classroom when kids have places to be
  • Vinyl seating/floor-I'm glad the 2016s allow vinyl floor with rear AC, we have Vinyl floor in the Sprinter and love it for keeping clean
  • Sync3, I replaced my archaic Sprinter radio with an Eclipse that would push video to back headrests for movies, I'm going to have to figure out a way to do this without ripping out the Sync3

Questions:
  • Does Sync3 include a reverse camera or do I need to add that as a separate option? I didn't see this in their clunky configurator.
  • I didn't see a remote start option...I'd like to have that for wintertime even though it'll be garaged. How do you add it if it isn't in the configurator?
  • Limited Slip? I don't haul much but will probably get the towing package, so would it make sense for me to go with the 3.31 limited slip?

I've learned with my last few vehicle purchases that the dealers usually don't have the right info, so I'm really hoping that your experience can help me shape what exactly I need to ask for.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks!

You can PM CrewVanMan with your email address and he'll send you the Order Guide which lists every option available for the Transit along with showing what depends on what. The Order Guide also lists options like Remote Start that aren't on Ford's website configurator.

There are some non-Ford configurators available as well. I used the one on Edmunds.com and it does list the options Ford's own site leaves out.

I'd also suggest "Keys 2 Additional" - which gives you 4 keys total. $75 for the two extra keys is a bargain if you check what they cost afterward!

The limited slip option only adds $300, considerably less than what it would cost to change later. That's why I went for it. My current vehicle is an open diff and has been fine overall but just enough trouble over the 18 years I've had it that I wanted to try LS.

The rear view camera is standard equipment on both van and wagon models. If you don't have a radio with a screen you get a rear view mirror with the screen in it, otherwise it's on the radio screen (either the little 4" screen of the lower models or the SYNC 3 large screen). At least that's my understanding from the Order Guide, I don't have my van yet!

And you are correct - many of the dealers don't know a thing! I was far more knowledgeable than the first dealer I tried not only about the Transit but Ford's ordering process as well. Finally fired them and went with someone recommended here.

Argh... Had another suggestion but now I see it isn't available in the Wagons. This is another reason the Order Guide is useful, up front is a table which shows what options are standard / optional / unavailable for each model and trim line.

I was going to suggest, if you don't necessarily want SYNC 3 specifically one option others here have done is to order with the "Radio Prep Package" which puts in the speaker wiring and sets up the dash for a single-DIN radio. Then they install an aftermarket unit of their own choice. But then I saw the "-" (unavailable) marks in the Wagon columns! :/

Do as RandomJoe said and private message CrewVanMan as he can email you the official Ford order guide.
The remote start option is available, but the reason you don't see it on Ford's website is because it is a dealer-installed option.
Sync 3 does come with a rear view camera standard and it's the best one to get as you'll have a 6 inch plus screen to see the rear view with!
Basically what you want to order on your van is everything you think you will need, because purchasing everything after your van arrives is WAY MORE EXPENSIVE.
For example, let's say you get the 12 passenger, but then change your mind and want to add 3 more seats and move the 4 seat 4th row to the very back...well you can't do that as the 15 passenger 5th row 4 seat bench is different than the 12 passenger 4th row 4 seat bench.
You'd therefore have to buy two new rows of seats...Ford charges over $1,800 for a new row of seats!!!
Or what if you decide you'd like to have the 16 inch alloy wheels later...I've seen them on Ebay for $1,300...not as cheap as just ordering it from the factory for MSRP of $395.
So basically any option that you and your family decide would be nice to have...you should seriously consider ordering your vehicle that way.

Finally, the same thing I warn other about when it comes to the vinyl seats.
They're only available in the XL trim and if you go with that trim just remember that the vinyl seats do NOT recline and do not have outboard armrests. There are a few other differences and niceties you'll give up which you can research on Ford.com.

See this link for a view of the vinyl seats without recline or armrests:
