Knobs all the way! In fact I'm waiting for a cellphone company to release a model with a trusty rotary dial.

Ok just kidding. I actually really like all the controls at the bottom of the screen. They are always there and easy to use. The one exception is the blend door (is that what it's called?), that requires the whole screen to change. But I rarely change that.

Hmmmm….. I literally just asked my dealer to update my stock order to include the 12” Sync 4 unit as well as the 360 degree camera. I do have reservations about the electronic temp controls. Having said that, I don’t think I would be happy with the tiny 4” screen.
As a owner of a Transit Connect for 6 years I can assure you the 4" screen would not be fun to have on a full-size van. It's a no-brainer to have the larger screen just for the reverse camera, especially for a cargo van.

I love the big screen in my 23 passenger van, but HATE electronic controls. My van has been waiting for 3 weeks for the parts to fix a frozen climate control module. It may well be great with auto controls when working correctly, but this was one of the first things my wife complained about when we got the van. We would both much prefer physical controls and then we immediately are dealing with total failure of the climate control section of the screen 🤬
Also, the seat heaters are much harder to adjust compared to my F150. Without physical buttons, you must take yours eyes off the road to adjust the heat. I would pay extra for physical controls!

if you take it off of automatic then turn the fan up to a mid level it blows mixed air at you, in automatic it is either hot or cold but you don't have to drive around with it in auto. touch the vent location icon, the one that shows window/face/feet, pick which location now turn up the fan blower.

You're right. I leave AUTO off all the time and set the temperature at 70 degree. I just use the fan speed to adjust the air flow.

'23 X2Y 12 Passenger XLT Sync 4, Initial late Oct delivery had both quick warm up and good heat - - Not so, lately - - Slow, or No warm up - - Intown driving - - Go 1-2 miles, Pull over and Stop - - Shift to Park, Key Off, Open door - - Close Door - - Re Open and Close Door (Hear blend door or some mechanism movement behind the dash) Re start, Shift Into gear and Proceed - - Might have heat - - Repeat process and might have warm/hot air after 2nd or 3rd shutdown and restart - - Eventually gets warm air output - - Puzzling

Any ideas ?? Methinks 'blend door actuator' since heater control module does eventually produce heat ??

Raise or lower temperature just by voice is keen with all the sun coming thru the windows or in shade and clouds - - I'm learning -

Im not a ludite by any means, but my 23' was ordered with the 4" screen because of my severe dislike of having everything on a touch screen, especially HVAC. One of my favorite features even of the 4" screen is that I can make it completely black. I had to give up a few features I wanted like side sensing. I will acknowledge the 4" backup cam is garbage, and i may eventually put in the 8" screen for that reason, but its tolerable so far, and once you get used to your mirrors, its not that bad. The tradeoff is worth it to me. I also have windows in my most of my van, but if you had a full cargo and no rear windows, I would for sure go big screen, no question

I do wonder just how distracting having that large screen would be over time, and how much time your eyes would spend on it and trying to adjust things on a touch screen rather than knobs, taking your attention away from the most important life saving task - guiding this van down the road safely.

100% I’m way less distracted in my old Subaru with no screen and buttons that in my wife’s Toyota with Apple CarPlay always up and me having to toggle like 4 screens to switch the **** radio station.

I think it could be less distraction. For example, I can set the temperature to exactly what I want and leave it versus constantly fine tuning it with a knob. Also, the large screen gets you voice activation of many things that I'm not sure are possible with the small 4" screen.

I’ve never found the temperature settings in cars to be super great and end up messing with the heat regardless, especially in a big van.
I can’t really think of anything I would need voice activated in my van except phone calls , which the 4” screen does.

To each their own , and thankfully ford still lets you order whether you want , although I do think the holy grail is the 8” with hvac knobs. Sad they got rid of that.

My 2021 8 inch screen can be turned off or dimmed. Is that not possible with the new screen?
The new one automatically goes into the dimmer function. It's not bright or obtrusive to me at all. It's off to the side, so unless I'm looking at it I don't even notice that it is on day or night.

1-2 miles is not enough to warm up the coolant. My 1.0L EcoBoost barely makes heat in a mile. October surely had higher ambient temps, so the coolant started out warmer.

i havent found a way to turn it off completely, but you can set it to stay on night mode, which is a dark theme. it additionally dims in low light as LumberJeff mentioned. between the two, it is pretty unobtrusive. there is also a "calm mode" which reduces the amount of stuff on the screen
