Anyone have a feel / expectations for the used market for high roof transit vans?

From talking to dealers in the Boston area, they don't like stocking them because there apparently isn't any demand. They don't even keep the new ones on the lot because no one ever wants to see them. I'm eyeing a used one right now a bit outside the city but it's been on the lot for over a month

Since I plan on unloading this van in 2 or 3 years, I'm wondering if I'd be better off getting the medium roof height, as those seem to sll much quicker.

The high roof is definitely cooler and more practical for me, just don't want to be stuck with something no one wants to buy

Thanks

Just get the Transit that will fit your needs. There will always be a demand for a Transit no matter what the height is. Keep good maintenance on it and when you get ready to sell it, it will bring whatever is the market price in your area. The 3.7L engine in the high roof comes with the 4.10 rear axle. When you go to the 3.5L EcoBoost, you get the 3.31 ratio as standard equipment and the 3.73 ratio or either locking axle ratios are optional.

Give me the type of Transit you are looking for and I may be able to find it in your area. Need your zip code to try and get one close to you.

Anyone here ever drive through the UK and notice how many vans there are?

They are everywhere and it seems like there is a high roof on every block, almost.

Point being, markets have preferences and preferences change.

I would be a bit skeptical of dealers maybe trying to push what is on their lot.

In any case, once the Transit becomes common used, there is a high probability it will achieve some cache via interesting uses.

How many people, once they get in a decent van for the first time in their lives, will be thinking of selling the pukeup in their driveways?

One of my favorite salesman line from years ago when we were trying to find a Suburban with a bench seat in front:

"We don't have any because nobody buys them."

duh, nobody can buy what you don't stock. I bought one from a different dealer shortly after.

I think most of the current buyers of the Transit have another type van, wagon, or SUV that is at least 7 years old or older and looking at replacing it. Since the Transit is one of the first vehicles on the market that can be adapted to many uses from the various body styles, it is gaining interest from all types of buyers. Most dealers are still looking at the Transit from a commercial viewpoint and I think that with time, they will figure out there is another market out there for the general public buyer. You are now seeing some dealers being aggressive with having Transit wagons on the lot and added some of the pre-owned models to their inventory. To get the pre-owned units on the lot, you have to have the rental fleets and some of the lease vehicles returned to Ford. This is now happening and you will see more new and used Transits on the dealer lots.

Get your high roof if you want it. The population is getting taller, not shorter. Six footers used to be rare. Now they are common, and every one of them will prefer your high roof to the other guy's mid roof.

Yeah, still scratching my head over the interior dimensions. It seems that the "mid" should be 6'. I measured a midroof passenger van, and it's only 5'7.5" high inside.

the "low" makes sense because it's just supposed to accommodate seated passengers. What is the "mid" supposed to accommodate, since you can't stand in it?!

Not sure about the interior clearance of the mid cargo. I'll probably end up with a highroof because I want to be able to stand in it. Not tickled about the 4.10, nor being forced to get an ecobeast to get a more economical rear end. I supposed the 6-speed overdrive gear on the highway is OK with a 4.10, though.
