I am trying to find a keyed 12V and Ground source for my radar detector. I popped off the big triangular shaped piece of plastic behind the mirror and found what you see in the pictures.

I do not have lane departure or auto wipers. Does anyone know what the box with the wires does?

Which of the 4 wires in the large grey connector are 12V and ground?

That's where I powered mine from as well, but I have more wires than that in my connector.

Based on my wiring and your connector pic, I would check the black/purple for ground and the grey/red for 12v ignition power.

I agree, and if you are tall it could be annoying. I'm not tall enough for it to be in the way.

Rene, if you decide to run new wire up the A pillar, low voltage lawn sprinkler irrigation wire is great. 18/5 or 18/7 available at Home Depot by the foot, or $25 for a 50' package. 5-7 different color coded 18ga wires in the bundle, in housing designed for direct bury (aka durable). I've installed it even when I didn't know what I might use it for later. That worked out great when years after the fact I decided to add additional rear lighting to my Sprinter, and the wire was already there!

I'm running some in the body cavity to the back of my T250, to future-proof it. Probably up the A pillar to the overhead shelf, too. For USB charge/power ports.

There is also 16/4 in-wall speaker wire, if you think you need 16ga.

Taz, is that low voltage wire stranded or solid core?

Solid core is not a good idea for automotive. Too much vibration. Same is true for soldering stranded wire in an automotive application. I will only use marine grade wire (tinned), non-insulated tinned crimps and glue lined heat shrink tubing. I also only use one of two crimpers. One rolls the top (split) into the strands with a small upward line across the bottom in the middle. The other keeps the top from deforming, and puts a deep dimple in the barrel from the bottom. The glue lined heat shrink really seals the connection if you place it right. Tinned on tinned and sealed makes for a very reliable connection.

Here's one of a 15 with rain delay. (The red wire is the tap to power the monitor in the aftermarket rear view mirror)

I have the shroud, but no wiring whatsoever in there. I don't have TPMS or the lane keeping system. Like I said in another thread, thinking about putting a dash cam and/or radar detector.
