Hi all,

I'm a new owner of a 2021 Transit 250 148'' Crew Van, 2wd. Some things I love about it, some things I don't.

As a remodeling contractor, it was time for me to jump from my F150 into a full size van. My goal is to make this van a versatile and efficient work vehicle, while being able to quickly convert it into an epic family adventure van when needed. My 3 kids fit on the bench nicely. Need to put a passenger seat armrest to keep wife happy :D

Mods so far:
  • Tinted all windows
  • Weathertech floor mats up front
  • Legend insulated wall and ceiling liners (Installing this weekend)
Want-To-Do mods:
  • Swap steering wheel and program cruise control
  • Paint wheels black
  • Ziebart undercoat & Rust prevention
  • Wrap?
  • Decked system. -> I'm not jumping into a Decked system just yet, but I have one in my F150 and love it.
  • LED headlights
  • Improve backup lighting
  • Hitch
  • Improve front seat comfort
  • Passenger seat armrest
I'm grateful so far to have read some very informative posts and threads, and am looking forward to contributing as I gain more experience with my van!

You have to order BOTH the Cruise Control system you want and if you want the passenger seat armrest, you have to order the correct seat package. If you order the Dark Palazzo Gray Vinyl seats, you have to designate the proper seat package to get the armrest for the passenger seat. You will pay the $115 option to get it, otherwise when you go to add it, you may pay 3 times that to get it.

you mean your van didn't come with cruise control?

Cargo vans come with it, and with armrests on both front seats.
That's right. This van was ordered without cruise control or passenger seat armrest. I didn't order it from the factory, so it was sitting on the lot however the dealer ordered it.

It's a bit of a head scratcher that a new vehicle, with lane keep assist, brake assist, and other modern amenities doesn't have cruise control. Or rear backup sensors either. 🤷‍♂️ But that's how it was ordered.

By making both work and family storage modular, it’s easily interchangeable. The decked system has worked as a great solution so far.
Did this with our last rig - Sprinter 170 Passenger. Took a short bit of time to swap from 2 seats with full RV-ish setup to 5-passenger with galley and sleeping for 2 to 8-passenger without galley to 11-passenger.

Here's 8-passenger mode from the rear:

Same trip, using the bed as additional storage:

And here's 2-person mode:

Rear:

Our current rig is not set up to be quite as flexible; but it really worked out well in that one. In fact, we'd remove the galley at camp sites and use it outside the van. Current van just goes 2-person / 4-person.

I use my current Econoline as a work/family van. I’m up front, kids in the middle seats, tools secured in the rear. What’s the problem with that?
I'm a remodeling contractor with a MR Transit a real work van. Shelving both sides, partition and rack I don't have any where near enough room for all my tools and supplies. I guess if you only did one thing and need a limited amount of tools but that's not the case for a "remodeling" contractor.

Welcome from the western burbs! I have a 5 and 7 year old and am planning a similar build. My 2023 Transit 250 148'' Crew Van is scheduled to be built the week of February 14th. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Cheers,

Brad

This is great, and inspirational. Thanks for sharing!
