My van has the short arm, power heated mirrors, with signals. The mirrors themselves have the heat/defrost icon on them. However, I can't find the switch to turn them on. I also have the rear defrost, because my van has rear privacy glass. The rear defrost switch/button is behind the steering wheel on the right side of the gauge cluster, and the space above it is a blank. Did they forget the switch? Or do the mirrors defrost with the rear windows? The mirror heat icons do not illuminate when the rear defrost button is depressed, I don't know if they're supposed to.

A little help from heated mirror dudes and dudettes?

The owners manual shows a switch for the mirrors, and explains that alternatively the heated mirrors will work when you turn on the rear window defroster. Cllear as mud right?

Is that how you interpret it? I understand that the heated mirror switch should have a corresponding icon to the mirrors themselves. Does your van have them? And are they supposed to light up the icon on the mirror when activated, because mine don't. Maybe I should run it and use my temp gun to monitor the surface temp of the mirror.

Great, I've lost my mind.

The way I'm reading it on page #93 - 94, even though it says #96 - 97, is that some Transits have a on/off button for the heated mirrors (shaped like a mirror) and some don't. Those that don't are controlled by the rear window defogger.

Climate Control The heated exterior mirrors will clear the mirror glass of thin ice and fog. They will turn off automatically after a short periodof time.Note: Do not use razor blades or sharpobjects to remove ice from the mirror glass or attempt to adjust the mirror glass whenit is frozen in place. The vehicle warranty does not cover damage to the mirror glassor mirror assembly.Note: Do not clean the mirror glass or mirror assembly with harsh abrasives, fuel or other petroleum-based cleaning products. Note: On vehicles without a heated exterior mirror switch, they will turn on automatically when you switch the heated rear window on.

Mine get warm to the touch when I turn on the rear defrost, just as described in the manual.

My new Wagon is the same. There is no separate push-button to turn on the mirror defrost function apart from the rear window defrost, although there is a blank inoperable "button" above. (photo attached)

To the left of the steering wheel are the Traction Control System (TCS) button and the Reverse Sensor beep button (for lack of the correct term right now, and which can be turned off only in Reverse). Along with the larger screen of the MFT and the back-up camera display showing curved lines for the projected path while backing up, the transition back to a van, from my recent smaller sedan, has been relatively easy, with the reverse sensor's beep increasing in frequency as a collision becomes more imminent. FWIW.

Has anyone received a Transit, that actually has a heated mirror switch? Or has this gone the way of the MFT CD?

Noticed since the temp has dropped around here enough to use the heater that the rear window defogger comes on if you turn the cabin heat control to near maximum. Weird, and unwanted. I'm capable of deciding if I need rear defog...
Fortunately pressing the rear defog switch turns it back off.

As for adding heated mirrors later- there is some debate that the wiring isn't there if the vehicle didn't come with that option...
