After 3 months of waiting we finally took delivery on our 2018 Ford Transit T250 148" High Roof. AKA Griffin. We custom ordered it on August 28th from Matt Ford and picked it up on December 15th. Already put 600 miles on the odometer and am glad we decided to hold out to get all the options that we wanted versus trying to save a few bucks on a basic van off the lot.

We are documenting the entire build on our website and plan to capture the different phases on video on our youtube channel as well. You can check out the build log here but will be posting to this thread as well.

Here is our initial plan. More to come as we wrap up the details on the schematics and blueprints. We plan to do a cardboard mockup in the van to get a better feel for space as well.

We are starting the build this week. Thanks to everyone who has provided so much great information on the forum to help make deciding on a Transit easy. A lot more to come...

I do like that silver. I went to buy a Silver W3X diesel in Houston. Sold by the time I went to look at it!

Bummer. I'm really happy about the color. Never saw it in person until we picked up our van. We wanted something light colored to reduce the heat absorption from the sun but didn't want the commercial white look. Really like the magnetic color but was afraid it would add to the inside temps for the dogs in the summer.

How did you come to name it Griffen?
It's after the mythical creature (part eagle and part lion). Basically it's referencing the idea that our van is going to be the merging of the best parts of everything we want/do. Camping, mountain biking, travel, etc. We wanted something different and most of the good van puns have been used up. :) Also, the idea on riding on the back of an actual griffin sounds bada$$.

Window vent visors and 3 keypads. Keypads were a must so we could easily get in after mountain biking without have the keys on us.

Front doors and rear door. They were really easy to program. Already slapped them on. The first of many additions.

I have 3 on our wagon as well, extremely useful for both locking and unlocking. All are programmed to the same familiar zip code which is easy to remember. You can also lock/unlock while the engine is running.

Enjoy your adventures in the build!

Pre-Build Video Tour

Here's a quick pre-build tour of our van (already a few days into the build but shot the video before we started). :)

Will be putting up a series of videos of the build (with hopefully better quality each time).

Congrats, nice looking van. I would recommend the mud flaps, especially if you are going to be out on dirt roads.

I ordered mine in the Lunar color, sight unseen as well. I don't normally like darker colors but since I am into astronomy I felt I HAD to order it because of the name. It looks great when clean.

Thanks. I’ll look into the mud flaps. It’s always hard knowing the true color since their hardly on a lot anywhere. Photos don’t always do it justice.

Progress is being made. Full write up and videos on the way. Getting work done over the holidays has been hit and miss. So far our progress includes:
• Pioneer 4200NEX installed
• Powered subwoofer (temporarily) installed
• Walls and ceiling insulation done
• Sound proofing done
• Passenger seat swivel done
• Starting on the floor

It's currently only 8 degrees outside which is impeding progress since I can't feel my fingers and the 3M adhesive doesn't like the temps either.

More details coming soon...

Passenger Seat Swivel Installation

Got the seat swivel installed from Swivels R Us on our 10-way power seats. Didn't cut off the child safety anchor point on the base or have to add a ton of spacers to make it work either. For some reason our swivel didn't have 2 of the holes that it needed to bolt in properly but it was easy enough to drill our own. 2.5 hours and the job was done. After our first outing this weekend I'd say we are quite pleased.

Full details on our website here: http://www.outdoor-wanderlust.com/install-seat-swivel-in-ford-transit/

Proof it works - https://youtu.be/1zjA22q_igc :)

I'm so glad you posted this information about a swivel seat installation on a 10 way power seat. When talking to our dealer, he said you couldn't install the swivel on these types of seats. I'm about to order our Transit and will now be able to get these seat types.

About to post a video covering our install. I’ll post it here when it’s up.
