I currently have my van wired and using a goal zero yeti 1500. I’m looking to switch that over to a more traditional battery bank. Is this a simple switch out? I’m hoping since the wiring is already done, this is an easy task. Any advice is appreciated.

It depends on what you have connected to the Goal Zero and how you are charging it. Changing it could meaning adding batteries, DC-DC charger, solar charger, shore power charger, inverter. Might not be simple.

Thanks for the reply- Right now it charges from the vehicle battery and I’ve got shore power as well. I know I’ll have to add the dc-dc charger and inverter since that’s built into the goal zero.

I guess my biggest concern is using the existing wiring and fuse box

Wire and distribution panel should be as good as they were with the goalzero. That is, if they were proper before, they should be proper now. Wire size, fusing and the rest of it. They don't know if the power came from a goal zero or from a traditional power solution.

What’s the motivation for the change? Do you need more capacity? Is something not working out with the Goal Zero?
Nothing wrong with it. I’m trying to sell my van and that seems to be the biggest drawback. Was hoping I could upgrade a little to help attract a buyer.

I now own a passenger van and could use the current goal zero in the new van if I were to remove it. I won’t be using it for much besides an occasional overnight trip

Yeah, GZ 1500 wouldn't cut it for me, however the 3000X with 280 amp hours and 2K pure sine wave inverter is perfect powering a dual induction cooktop, Isotherm 4.6 cu.ft. fridge, Propex heater & Bosch 2.5 gal electric water heater.

Charges with solar and GZ VIK- which really made it be able to keep up with low sun. To build an equivalent system you will spend a bit more if you do it yourself and easily double or more hiring it out.

So if I upgrade to the 3000x and add solar you think it would be the route to go? I would have to hire it out because I don’t know enough about electrical to do it myself

Grant @ Freedomvango says that is enough for the vast majority of converted vans (happy to build you a custom one too). I'm pretty mechanical & did my own roof solar install along with the GZ Vehicle Integration Kit for alternator charging yet don't trust myself to build a system from scratch and frankly just didn't want to do it anyway. And we've used the GZ a few times in the house when power was going off.

Even Winnebago is going down this road with Solar Generators (all in one) with their new model with an Adventure Wagon Kit.

If you decide to upgrade REI usually has a 20% off sale around now. You have a year to return it as well.

We really like our 3000x, but my gut feeling is that spending $5k or $10k upgrading a van you are selling is not the best thing to do. You are really asking about how to sell your very nice, almost new van, and I just don’t know enough about the current resale van market to be of any help.

Yea, I was hoping I could upgrade without spending a ton. Maybe I’ll look into other upgrades. I’be already dropped the price to the point where I’m losing money. But I need it gone since I’ve already purchased a second van at this point

If people are complaining about it - just remove it and call it out as "wire prepared for electrical system" or similar.

I build van electrical systems for people but not really inexpensive ones.

If you are in the general San Jose, CA area, I could try to help you by offering to support your system for the new buyer if that is helpful.
