Nice write up. For comparision, this is what my under $30, dedicated 1080P/2MP AHD rear camera looks like mounted on my 2017 van. The second picture is what the 480TTL camera looked like before I upgraded it. This 2MP camera provides a much better image on my rear view monitor.

This is kit I purchased. Appears to be good quality, and has 4 different modules.

Maybe a dumb question but has anybody looked at the possibility of making the OEM reverse camera operate manually.

I could never figure out why the Blue Sea voltmeter was so dang pricey.
I am sure they purchase theirs from a Chinese manufacturer that makes the majority of the ones for sale in that style all over the place. I am sure they are more pricey because they stock them in inventory (convenience), have their own logo put on them, and they have to make their designated profit margin.

On the OEM screen, or an aftermarket head unit? Aftermarket would be straight forward to do, OEM would be more difficult because of how the reverse gear signal activates the camera via the FCDIM or rear view mirror.

Thanks @Vanpackr for finding this. You link to the H610 in this thread and to the H609 in your review webpage.

From this thread and the reviews on Amazon it seems that the thing we should be looking for is the brightest screen possible but the screen brightness is not specified. I wonder if anybody could provide some guidance as to which screen is the brightest or if all four VanTop models are all the same brightness.

Here are the four VanTop models, I am tempted by the 4K model (H612T, price is actually $127.49) because it is 12" wide and you can have 2.5K resolution both front and back at the same time, but I wonder if the screen is less bright than in a lesser model:

I mounted the 612 Camera on the black part of the window about head high towards the center and I've been really happy with the view. When I mounted it high up it was hard to get both the close view and the distance view all in one, it also seemed to warp the video more up high. Now with the mirrors there is no blind spot, I can see the front of the car in my side mirrors before it disappears from the rear view video.

Great tip thanks! How tall are you (to find out how high you positioned it)? I am 6'3" so head-high might be too high in my case.

Are you happy with covering the existing rearview mirror with the new screen?

An Amazon buyer placed the new screen above the rearview mirror so you can see both. I feel that in a Transist this might the block the view of the front camera. My main need is for the rearview screen but it would be better to avoid blocking the front view camera.

I mounted the 612 Camera on the black part of the window about head high towards the center and I've been really happy with the view. When I mounted it high up it was hard to get both the close view and the distance view all in one, it also seemed to warp the video more up high.
