Never really gave much thought to prisoner transport since I don't really plan on being inside one ever, but I guess these vehicles are used a lot (especially in the USA.) Now the Ford Transit has been shown as a Prisoner Transport Vehicle Concept.

The concept was jointly developed by Pennsylvania-based Havis Prisoner Transport Solutions. Ford didn't have too much to say about it, but they did say that it can carry as many as 12 prisoners in three compartments. Have to wonder how much space each one of them will get though.

The cabin is equipped with a police radio and a special control panel that controls things like flood lights and gun locks.

Ford police marketing manager Jonathan Honeycutt said, "The Transit PTV is the latest example of Ford’s deep commitment to helping provide law enforcement agencies with capable vehicles. This concept proves Transit is upfit-ready and designed to Built Ford Tough standards.”

One of the cool things about having a long tall Silver Dodge badged Sprinter with deep tint OEM look windows everywhere except the last position rear sides was that NOBODY could ever figure out what it was or it's use.
One time around midnight with the family sound asleep I pulled into a rest area along I-75 in GA and found a spot open right in front next to the handicapped ones.
I hopped out and the night attendant asked me:

" You want me to lock it up?"

I looked at her puzzled, and said "Huh?"

She said "The bathrooms, you want me to clear them out and lock up everything else? You have prisoners, right?"

Good one LongBoard!

Funny, when I saw the title of this thread in the Recent Discussions sidebar, I thought you were calling yourself a Ford Transit Prisoner, which is how many are beginning to feel IMO. :)

My second reaction upon seeing your photos was, "Hmmm, if this unit is in stock and available for purchase, could I modify it for camping?"

Ha!

others before me have attempted to point out the search function to help prevent duplicate threads and make this a useful forum, but is seems as if the vast majority of people here prefer this to be a Reddit/Vandwellers style forum instead!

People already search and find nothing so they ask and it gets answered.

That creates more detailed topics/answers which causes Google to aggregate more hits on a search.

That brings more people to the forum and helps more people find answers.

The Internet isn't running out of space. The more answers the better.

If you don't want to answer then post a link to the answers or ignore the post.
