I've heard that several manufacturers add fake engine noise. Ford claims it's to save fuel, but it's really to make the tiny penis crowd feel better about their engines. VVRROOOM!

If that came stock on any vehicle I bought the first order of business would be to disconnect the stupid thing. What's with this mind control crap? I swear 500 years from now we'll all look like those little grey aliens...unicolor hermaphrodites. Then nobody can be bothered by anyone else because the only person we can screw is ourselves. A perfect society with marketing engineers programing desired behavior.

Forget engine noise...gimme some options, like waves lapping the shore or a woman moaning softly...something pleasant, at least.

If mine moaned louder the more I put my foot in it, I'd be looking for something more compact.

Well it wasn't posted as NEWS- merely a comment that Ford is doing this to coax drivers to shift sooner in MANUAL transmission vehicles.

AFAIK the 2015 F150 isn't available with a manual transmission.
So.....my guess is you didn't actually read the linked article, but thank you for your comment.

No, I read the article and found their logic interesting. I remember how much they would hound us about progressive shifting when I was a truck driver. Low RPMs save fuel, but drivers like high RPMs because of responsiveness. There's also the perception that they are lugging the engine, and people use that to justify lower gears at higher RPMs. So by making the engine sound beefier they may get people to drive more efficient? Interesting...

I'm very active on another Ford truck site, and constant bellyaching bout the fake noise is getting a little old. Trucks with the Lariat and higher trim and the 3.5L EcoBoost engine get fake engine noise in the cab to make it sound like a V8. My truck is an XLT model, so I don't get that, but I've honestly never understood the disdain for it. Automakers have been altering the way their vehicles sound since their advent over 100 years ago...so if the idea is to make the engine sound less wimpy to the occupants then go for it IMHO.

This is the second of my posts you seem to have taken offense to. I really don't intend to come off as abrasive, but I tend to be a bit blunt in the way I write. I'll try to get better about that.

My gripe with this sort of thing is that I want a *QUIET* ride. I do NOT want extra noise added in! As long as the "fake engine noise" can be turned off then I guess I have no major objection. (I've not been in a car that had it before.)

I definitely wouldn't care for fake noise that makes the RPM sound higher. The main reason I went with the EB on the Transit was because I don't like "screamers" - engines that have to wind up to get the job done. It'd greatly annoy me to have to listen to "fake screaming".

I'd agree with that, I also like quiet. I've never ridden in an F150 with the fake noise, but I don't believe it's obtrusive. I'd be curious to do a direct comparison to see if the engine actually seemed louder.

Seems like most people want to hear their engine though. Obnoxiously loud exhausts are quite common around these parts, which is something I've never understood. :s
