I'm looking to install a fantastic roof fan and a maxxair vent cover in my transit, but the state of my back prevents me from getting up on the roof and doing it myself. I don't really know anybody who I could ask to do it for me, so I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place that does that kind of thing?

I don't mind driving a bit to get it done, either. I'm currently in southern Ohio.

Is this something an auto body shop would do, perhaps?

I hope you find someone to do the install. But, I have to ask: Why a Fantastic Fan with MaxxAir cover? Once you accept the need for a MaxxAir cover -- to use the fan when driving, or while it's raining -- why not get a MaxxFan Deluxe instead of the Fantastic Fan? The MaxxFan would look better, and provide less wind resistance, when down, over the MaxxAir cover. What am I missing?

Basically the Fantastic Fan is what "everybody" who I've come across uses. I have no preference really, and if the maxxair fan is a better fan then I'm absolutely willing to give it a spin.

The only roadblock is finding someone to do it for me. It's tough to trust somebody to slice a giant hole into the roof of my new van...

I went with the MaxxAir and couldn't be happier. It's a really well made product and I think only one member here has had any issues. It seems to be what most people on this forum are using.
As for the installation, it's a very simple job that any body shop or rv service center should be able to do. I'd just study up and print out some pictures and instructions and give them that info. And get an adapter from Hein on this forum to make the process even easier.

I'm going to try a local body shop and see if they can do it. I also thought of calling camping world, since I know they do RV maintenance and probably work with those fans all the time.

CampingWorld is most experienced...but wow...expensive. A good ole boy body shop will probably do a better job and much cheaper...and have fun doing it...something new for them.

Yep, I'm chicken to do it.
I'm looking for someone (who has done it before) to do it in Southern California (Oceanside).
My concern with CampingWorld is that they are RV oriented and may think they can crawl/lean on the roof.
I am curious what they charge though.

I contacted sportsmobile (fresno) 3 weeks ago about fan, windows and solar panels.
(everything involving cutting holes in the van)

They emailed me back:
I will review your items requested and will get back to you soon. We are very busy, thank you in advance for your patience.

Still waiting, going to bug them next week..
I have heard there is a 6-12 month wait right now at Fresno.
