Interested in installing a maxair fan in front of the roof rib that is center on the sliding door. Has anyone done this? I'd like to preserve the roof rack area as continuous as possible. The roof curves more as you get close to the b-piller but it seems like a good location to avoid cluttering the roof. Thoughts? Redirects?

Yes you can install one anywhere the roof is flat enough. Many people have installed one in that area as well as installed dual fans with one in front and one in the rear.

Something to consider though is the actual function of the fan and vent. With the vent in the rear it allow you to crack the windows in the front doors and pull or push air all of the way the length of the van. With the fan mounted towards the front or midship, the air behind the fan could be somewhat stagnant with little to no airflow.

There are are holes and passageways that are inside the rear D-pillars near the floor that many have used to bring fresh air and electrical cables into the rear of the van, Perfect for a front mounted roof vent.

People get all excited about push, pull, push and pull, pull and push, but it's just air replacement. Not sure why people feel so strongly about one way or the other (or having two).

Just don't do this (spotted in long term parking at DFW):
