I think I've got this figured out. Publishing this photograph and diagram of the wire layout.

For my installation with surface mounted components, it looks like the most convenient place to put the high altitude sensor is right next to the DigiMax controller. I'll try putting the tiny crimp pins on the bare wires and installing the finicky pins from more than one bundle into the various plastic connectors. Won't be surprised to end up with a little electronics junction box for the SPDT switch and a bunch of separate crimp connectors for each splice.

The HA wiring directions from Espar are confusing at best. When I bought the kit from esparparts.com, they included their own diagram which adds the switch for easy access to the diagnostic mode. I'm guessing they got tired of going back into installations to reconfigure wires when troubleshooting. Sorry about the scan quality - it was an xth generation photocopy when I got it. And a bit confusing in its own way. That's why I laid out the actual cables and connectors and took a photograph to be sure I understood how it all goes together.
