My first small mod of my 2016 T250 MR LWB. Only the replacement of one of the two 12V outlets with a dual USB (1A/2.1A) socket.
It'll be the first of many Live video broadcasts that I hope to do, to show in great detail the whole process of converting a cargo van into a RV.

You can view it here.

Picture is Very clear - even during movement -
Tiny lag in audio sync - about 1 /5th second -

So are you going to be able to stream Live video from your Van ?
Thanks for the 'technical data'. The camera is good (Logitech C920) and 1080p (HD) And I will be working on video delay and audio lag. The biggest problem I have right now is getting my Windows laptop to work. That's where it all failed. I'll probably change to Linux which is much more stable. I got a simple but brand new laptop and it has been struggling with the wired Internet connection from the beginning. WiFi is OK but that again is not preferred for streaming purposes. We'll try it again this afternoon, 1/11/2016 @ 4PM ET.
Update: Right now it seems that by creating a dual boot system (Windows 10/Linux Mint), that my wired Internet connection in Windows seems to be resolved. Don't ask my how! Once the technical stuff is out of the way, I can focus my attention on the interesting stuff: the van conversion.

The final LIVE video broadcast went well, except for some sound problems, which I'm working on right now.
The focus was on replacing one of the two 12V outlets in the cabin console of my Ford Transit.
I didn't need many tools, only two sharp and pointy box cutters. The top panel, which contained the socket could be pulled apart fairly easy by hand with a little wiggling.
It's attached to the main console with about seven standard clips.

Besides the T-shaped 12V connector, the area underneath only contained the trailer brake controller, that I had installed as an option. The same space also allows room for the Upfitter switches option.

The tricky part was how to remove the old socket, which is held to the frame with two plastic 'springs'. Forget about those and focus on the metal, inner tube, which is attached with two smaller, but similar 'plastic springs' to the outer, plastic shell. By pulling these pins outward, the inner tube is released and subsequently the outer plastic shell can be taken out of the panel.
The only adaptation I had to make, was a short extension wire with spade connectors, to connect the T-shape connector to the parallel prongs on the new Dual USB charger.

This could be a 10-minute job and suitable for most DIY'ers.

In the coming days, I will write up a more detailed article with more images on the website and will publish a real detailed step-by-step guide with all the videos, images, tools and other resources to download for those who are interested.
You can watch the full video here!

This was a great experience and I learned a lot to make the next LIVE video broadcast even better. That will be the installation of a parking sensor in my rear bumper. Follow my website for updates or subscribe to be automatically notified of the next broadcast.

Why take out a multi use 12v outlet to replace it with a single use usb port?
That is a valid point. I just don't like adapters. Too many of them lying around.

The living area will also contain several USB sockets and only one 12V outlet.

Im going to do this too -great idea-

was there much stuff inside down where the cup holder is located?
I am thinking about replacing cup holder stuff and redesigning to have
more foot room and adding in something to hold a Ipad
for camera system I want to install (side/rear view cams ect)

the round 12 volt plug is so Last century tech -
useless for me - plus I dont want to plug my expensive
electronic gear into a $3 chinese charger -

just watched video- audio was so Mars Attacks --lol

The LIVE video feed is still new to me and still needs a lot of refinement. I'm really working on the audio. Sorry for that.

I just published an article about it with a few more detailed photo's (view here) and I'm working on a comprised video with some understandable audio. That'll be on the website in a couple of days.

I have been thinking about completely replacing the top panel (the one that I removed) and may still do that at a later time, to accommodate my tablet and some other things.

There is little room to move around between the seats and the console and shrinking that part of the console would be a great idea, but I doubt That it's possible. I should have another look at it. It would be a lot easier if you have no brake controller or Upfitter switches installed. You should be able to install the recorder part of a 'surround' camera system at the location of the Upfitter switches.

was pretty small - mount on roof -cone shape like a small plastic cup-

can change view using touch screen on Ipad using wifi so it has some lag-
swivels view full 360 - could be Real sweet - 1080p -picture was very good-
but it uses 800 firewire connection --power / router -

wish it used USB3 or Thunderbolt or s Rs32 or something
more up to date -

Lots of different camera setups are available, but starting with the 2016 Transit, which includes standard a backup camera, nothing is really needed in a basic setup. I would like to have a four camera system (rear, front and sides), but mainly for use when parked. It distracts me too much while driving, yet it would be a safety feature at night, when parked in the boondocks.

Technology-wise, It has always been a chaos with standards and will always be, I suppose. 1080P would be the way to go, if you can afford.

The vent idea wasn't mine, but hope to make it a bit more mainstream. Still lots of research to do on that. The fiberglass was in my first conversion and, contrary to what you often read, has served me well. It could be negatively affected by moisture, but that has more to do with proper ventilation. This conversion I will primarily use PolyIso sheets, probably a denim type insulation and some spray foam for the difficult areas. I don't worry too much about insulation and more about ventilation. If you are a cold climate traveler, that should be different.
There are several insulation products, that are promising, or at least advertised as, like Thinsulate. I'm always a slow adopter and first have to see years of data or rather independent reviews. I'd rather stay with the old and proven, than risk and deal with the problems for the next 10-20 years. With RV's it's difficult to change the insulation after the interior has been installed.

I wrote about the USB plug and similar electronics [ here ] and that will answer most of your questions. I never ordered that way, but looking back, it has been a positive experience. For small items (below $200.00 for reasons of import duties) it went flawlessly, just like Amazon. The negative is take delivery takes more time (~2-3 weeks) and I think you should restrict it to smaller and lighter items. On the positive side, you'll save a few bucks. Personally I think it's worth trying.
Make sure they accept Paypal, that takes out a lot of worries about financial information. I stuck to eBay for simplicity, where you can find many Chinese sellers. You'll find a screenshot attached.

So buy a Chinese usb socket to avoid using a Chinese charger that's maybe 1/8" taller?

Maybe I'm missing something but there are much more entertaining ways to waste time.

Kinda like buying a socket set and throwing away all but one socket and the ratchet to save weight "of all those other bulky sockets" . While keeping the plastic case they come in.

Look, for me it's more than just a USB socket. I tried to show how to open up the console and what you can expect to find. Not everybody is comfortable doing that type of work.

About the USB: as I said before, I dislike all these separate plugs and extension cords and rather work with dedicated outlets. Yes and some prefer that and others not.

That's how I bought them. Reasonably safe through eBay. Go for it!
It's the same stuff that's sold in stores, you just get it from the source.
