Here's another thread about things in Canada being stupid expensive.
I like the idea of the oil separator/catch can for the 3.5 ecoboost motors. I found a couple kits for $500-ish USD that would convert with shipping, brokerage, duty and exchange to about $740.00 CAD. I also found the JLT kit which is nice and simple as well as being much cheaper. (about $140 USD which would end up being about $225 CAD by the time it gets here.)
I then hit amazon and bought an aluminium catch can with everything needed to install the stupid thing (other than some 1/2" ID hose) for a whopping $36.49 CAD including same day shipping. I ordered it at 8:00 this morning and it was installed at 8:00 this evening.
This particular can has a dip stick to check whats in there, an o-ring sealed screw off bottom for draining/inspection and all the required baffles and screens to make it work like any and every other catch can in the world. Quality is fine, machining is left with sharp edges like all China stuff but the threads are good and the thing seals properly. I added an oring to the dipstick for no reason other than it makes me feel better than a metal to metal seat. I mounted it low on the passenger side wheel well as it's an easy spot to get to and gravity will help keep the oil down in the reservoir.
The only other thing required for install was four feet of 1/2" ID rubber hose that cost me $11 at the local auto parts store. This has me at a grand total of $47.49 CAD (about $35 USD) for a full functioning oil separator just like any other.
DIY and save $$$$$ Thank god it says "oil catch can" otherwise a person might forget what they've installed.
