Does anyone know how to dim the audio display (the 4" display for the Sync radio/back up camera). It doesn't seem to respond to the instrument dimmer (though it does dim a little when the headlights are turned on) and I can't find a setting in any of the menus or owners manual. It's kinda bright!
Thanks,
JP

No !
I have that complaint also, bright and shining, up there on a long drive at night, and no dimmer found !

Most displays can be shut off in some menu, but not this one. Keep the owners manual handy, you can shove it directly in front of the display, it jams in there nicely, that or a hat or wallet.

Arghh!

My solution tonight was to put my Samsung G4 in it's soft rubber case on edge in front of the display. That works pretty good as I usually have Google Maps up and running. No need for a phone holder. Pretty lame there's no dimmer for it though.

We should cut a piece of material to fit it that dims significantly but lets us see it.
Long reach to the screen though.

This should work good :
Amazon.com: Gila PB78 Privacy Residential Window Film, Black, 36-Inch by 6-1/2-Feet: Home Improvement

And I'm also thinking about having the roll down driver and passenger windows tinted professionally, but not the wing windows so that at night the mirrors will be easier to use effectively. In the Sprinter once I tinted the front sides at night a car with just driving lights on was barley detectable to my 61 year old eyes.
Now I know what to do with the excess self cling stuff from the Sync screen dimmer project......tint wings only as needed (off for the all night drive to and from FL, on while stealth camping the rest of the time. Probably will have to find a lighter tint than the one in the link to have it match the 28% though.

On my Sprinter I tinted the upper third of the driver's side with really dark static cling style film. Never need to flip the visor over. Oh, wait... on the Sprinter you CAN'T flip the visor over

What I am hoping for is some enterprising person to offer a 6" color display that mounts in front of the hole where the 4" display was removed. Uses same cable end as the 4" display. Maybe even have dial to dim.

4" is too small for my old eyes.

Longboard and others with HR, Are the "wing windows" positioned so you can see the outside mirrors with no problem? Reason I ask, thinking of having the driver & front passenger window tinted as dark as possible, like the rear ones, and having the "wind wings" tinted to the legal limit, here in AZ, as long as the mirrors are fully visable to the driver. Have serious light sensativity. If they aren't then it will just have to have entire front only to the legal and hang up a shade. I use to be 6' 3", seat will most likely be all the way back, so I can tuck legs in.

Yes, wing windows are larger than the roll down portion, and WAY larger than the Sprinter's.

You can go with a really light tint. I went to get some estimates for my sliding side window and back windows and a guy showed me some clear film they use on windshields to block out heat. He had a heat lamp to demonstrate how well it blocked the heat. It felt like it blocked about 75% of the heat. Has anyone tried this on their vans?

The product is Llumar windshield film. I'm sure other companies make it.

One thing I learned while researching window tint film for my Sprinter was that heat rejection was not related to visible light filtering at all. The almost clear windshield tints rejected WAY more heat than even the "Limo" tint that was darker than 18%. Deep tints are designed for privacy and to look cool from outside but don't necessarily block heat . Heat rejecting films cost way more, and can come in any degree of visible tint, from almost clear to extra deep "Limo" tint.
I'm doing mine for privacy though, so deep is important to me.

From 1981 to 1995 I installed Llumar window film as a part time gig while in various undergraduate and graduate school programs. Llumar is a VERY HIGH quality product. I still have my tools, and I wish I hadn't tossed my remaining rolls of automotive and commercial window film when we moved from South Carolina to Idaho in 1999. The residential and commercial film has a different type of bonding agent than the automotive film. Installation of the film is a technically and precision demanding endeavor. You get what you pay for. Ask the installer to show you examples of his work. EVERY SINGLE SPECK OF DUST will show under the film once it is dry in two or three days, and appear like little flicks of dandruff or snow flakes under the film.

Llumar manufactured and sold several tints when I installed it. AT-5 transmitted only 5% of the visible light. AT-20 transmitted only 20% of the visible light. AT-35 transmitted 35% of the visible light. And AT-50 transmitted 50% of the visible light. You could barely notice that AT-50 was installed on your front seat windows, and the AT-35 caused no problems on anything behind the driver. AT-20, and AT-5 was reserved for rear windows only. ALL of the above blocked virtually all of the UV rays, which was bad for upholstery, and also brought added heat to the interior. When I installed Llumar products, there was the smoked color, and a bronze colored tint. Reflective tints were illegal for automotive use where I lived.
