What have the real world charging rates been like at idle and at highway speeds?
Honestly I haven't been paying that much attention, mainly because it's always fast enough. I've noticed that I think the charge rate depends more on battery SOC than engine RPM. I get about 2,200W when the battery is lower, about 1,500W when it's higher.

48 V power systems are absolutely the future. It’s truly incredible how much power you can get from an auxiliary 48 V alternator.
I’m Josh, and I am Victron installer! I install electrical systems of all shapes and sizes. For the rest of this week, I’ll be working on this Transit, giving it an auxiliary 48 V alternator and complete in Victron system. Only catch is that it was ordered it with a OEM, 12 V auxiliary alternator. We’ll see a code on the dash til it goes to the dealer. I’ve confirmed the ECU/ECM can be reprogrammed to a “single alternator” ECU/ECM which will eliminate the dash code. I’ll be replacing the OEM aux alternator with a 48 V, 100 amp Nations alternator. It will be regulated by a Wakespeed WS500, slaved by a Lynx BMS.
I am stoked to share progress updates! If you have any questions about this system or any other electrical/solar system, post Q’s here and I’ll do my best to answer!
Posted by some dude named Josh Sipma. I don't know him and I am only posting because it seems relevant to this convo. Don't blame me if your ECU gets fried! Good luck :)

Hilarious. Josh is actually the one doing the install.

so, we talked to nations, and they connected us with a dealership in Indiana that doesn’t reject the ecu fix out of hand. I’m out of state from home but when I get back I’ll try again with a local dealership. If not, van is for road trips (like driving to Indiana). I’ve been reasonably assured it’s nothing more than a check engine light and I won’t be stranded or something weird.

ps. Josh owns and operates Outer Space Van Supply and I highly recommend him!
