Anyone remove their headliner yet? Any tips, pictures, or instructions? Is it the same as a passenger van?

Getting my HR 148 in 2 weeks and going to start installing insulation and sound deadening. Thanks

The search function on this site doesn't have a lot of fans, but I've found it usable for about 90% of my questions. As it says in the good book, there is nothing new under the sun.

This video might help you and there is another thread explaining a tool to help keep you from breaking the clips. Good luck.

I'm expecting it to be just like the passenger headliner with the addition of an end cap. We should be able to pop that off first and then remove the rest. Basically looks like they just cut it in half. If anything it "should" be easier.

Hi Grant! We finally removed our crew headliner & are trying to attach a furring strip to the cross beam but can’t figure out how to work around the attachment pieces. You did a fantastic job on your ceiling, so I know it’s possible!

We cut off the white tabs and removed the grey spacer pieces. We are only using the center black and orange attachment piece as well as the 2 plastic plugs to hold up the headliner. Works great for us. We also had to cut out the wood furring strip around so the black and orange attachment piece in the middle would have room to clip in. I used 1/2 baltic birch for my furring strip

PERFECT response! Thank you so much for replying so quickly! Now that we know our next moves my co-builder can take the van to surf & ride around Trail 6! 😂

Hi Grant! We followed your direction but when we went to put the headliner back in we couldn’t get the black & orange plugs in the middle above the crew seats to fully engage/click in. I think it’s cuz the 1/4” ceiling is in the way. Did you butt your ceiling strips up to the headliner, or tuck them under somehow. Any insight very appreciated!

I just got the crew van...and looking to do the same thing...I am thinking of taking down the headliner for insulation adn adding in cabinets or storage etc...do you have any tips or did you post anything once you got the headliner out?
I am sort of concerned about the wiring and the airbags etc.

Thanks!

I just did this on our 2021.
Step 1 - remove the four trim fasteners on the back hard plastic panel. This will mostly loosen up the trim piece. From there, get a step stool, pry a little bit in the center on the back to get a view. There's a lateral and also a vertical push connector. Wiggle em out. Takes a little force.
Step 2 - remove 2 more trim connectors on the front headliner by the drivers seat.
Step 3 - go back to the back of headliner, disconnect dome lights and pull out zip tie trim connector. Now, pull headliner down and back, and it's out.
Took all of about 5 min.

I plan to cut the headliner, and build cabinets above the inflators as there's so much dead space. I'll reattach the headliner to bottom of cabinet, probably build bottom of cab out of steel for rigidity if inflators actually have to work. This is actually a pretty slick setup because you don't have big foam blobs, get a nice finished piece over airbag, and can still utilize the area above the bag and build your own ceiling as the stock one takes up TONS of room.

Do you have any photos of your roof removal/setup? We’re gonna be wanting to use that space but not mess with the airbag operation.

Does the crew van headliner need to pull backwards to come off? Or just straight down? I'm wanting to pull it down to access the roof beam, but I have a cabinet blocking it from pulling backwards. Thanks!
