So I have a 2015 Transit 350 low roof 12 passenger 3.7L van. Getting the kids out the van today I just happened to look at the roof. Everything looked normal but then I noticed something odd. Around all the carriage looking bolts the paint is cracking around the bolt. Has anyone else heard of this problem? I really don't want water to get in there and rust.

I was just up on my MR tonight, cleaning. Have never seen a LR, but, I think you're describing the plugs for both roof rack mounts (on indented flat spots) and potential electrical pass-thrus. Well, that's what I've got. Yes, the paint around all of them is cracked. One of them showed a very light, suspicious orange haze on both sides of the crack.

Tomorrow I'll be putting on a liquid wax, and, I'll try to get it down in the cracks. In the next few months, I hope to put some rack mount pads up there, which will cover most of 'em, provide more sealing area, and eliminate the worry... including the most suspicious one.

There is an elastic sealant between the roof and the plug. The cracked paint is probably just what is applied to the sealant. No need for concern unless the plugs appear to be pushed up and the sealant is pulled away from the body or the plug.

I learned this the hard way.

I installed foam panels in my ceiling and had them pressed in so tight they popped a couple of the plugs. Of course I didn't find out about it till it rained.

It took several days of searching till I finally noticed the plugs popped up. I removed the leaking plugs and used some VHB tape to reseal the plugs.
