Hey guys, I was wondering if there was a way to add a second row of seats into the Cargo Transit SIMILAR to the Crew style, but I'd like the seats from the passenger van that are a bit narrower and can fold down.

Any idea if it is possible to purchase the narrower row of seats (54" wide I THINK?) and if so, is there a way to attach them in the location where the Crew van seats would normally sit? Again, the difference between what I'm looking for is the narrower seats to be able to more easily access the back of the van, and the ability to fold the seats down when we don't have a passenger.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer! Looking to add the ability to bring a kiddo along once in a while.

I haven't purchased or ordered a Transit yet, but I'm currently considering ordering (and waiting forever on) a Cargo Transit, High roof, 154" long wheelbase with the Adventure prep and Upfitter packages to build a camper conversion.

Google "ford transit L track" and scroll down to the results from this forum (Google search often works much better than the native forum search bar).

It can be done, safely, but requires a lot of work and due diligence to do properly. Depending where you want to mount the seats, you may be able to bolt down the seat brackets directly through the floor (you will have to drill holes, and put backer plates on the underside of the van for the screws to go through.

If you want to use L track to install the seats, like many on this forum have done, you will likely need/want access to a machine shop or someone who knows how to weld. I machined some aluminum spacers for the l track to sit on out of 1.25x1.5" aluminum bar, and also used a mill to help drill through the Ford seat brackets for the new screw locations (those things are thick/strong steel). Other people have welded in spacers as well.

If you want to keep the seat in the same general location as it is on the crew van, I'd probably just by a crew van (and possible relocate the seat or swap in a different seat from the passenger vans). You'll get airbags for the seats and some legal protection/precedent for having passengers in the back.

I literally just finished my floor, I may due a writeup on how I did it soon (I have two removable single seats down the center aisle of my van. The seats will only be installed on trips where I'm bringing another couple friends, otherwise the seats are out. Took me much longer than expected, and my general takeaway from the way many people have mounted seats with L Track in their builds is that they likely do not have enough studs connecting their seat brackets to the L track (I have 14 3/8" double lug studs per single seat, I've seen builds with only 4 or 6 studs per seat) to withstand a serious crash.
