To All: I'm about to order my Transit and found the pop out windows are not available. So I'm looking at the Laurence windows. Does anyone know how the windows are attached? Is it better to buy the cargo van and cut new openings or get the wagon and remove the old windows? I see bolt holes in the sales book, but what if they're glued in.

I had 3 Laurence windows installed in my E-150 14 years ago. The body shop said never again. So find someone who is experienced at installing windows. The sliding type works fine and the quality of Laurence is worth the price. My windows still look good 14 years later.

I ordered the"Win All AR w/2nd Row D/P Flip" and "Privacy Glass" (to quote window sticker) late August. The Van was built a couple days ago. Double check that the Flip Out windows are really not available (or has Ford removed this option). These do not flip very far and open in aft side. Also, they apparently block much of front third (or quarter) of front windows with its frame.

I'll check again before I place the order, but I sat with the fleet guy and we went though all they options in his computer one by one and I'm pretty sure there was only the option of windows all around like you ordered, rear windows only, or rear and slider with flip out glass. I did see one last week with the flip out and it does have a pretty big frame around it when viewed from the inside. My two local upfitters Van Specialties and Outside Van both install tons of aftermarket windows, so getting them installed correctly shouldn't be a problem if I decide not to do it myself.

If you have factory windows you can not install aftermarket windows, they use a frame while factory are glued in and have a different cut out pattern.

That will still work with my plan since I'm not getting windows all around. Going to keep the factory slider window and rear windows and put one more aftermarket window behind the driver next to what will be my second row of captains chairs. CRL has done a good job of replicating the factory look on the Sprinters and Promasters, so hopefully their Transit windows will follow suit.

That's sort of like what I did with my Sprinter.
I had the dealer install OEM rear door windows as well as middle side windows, and then I had Atwood/Creation awning screened windows put in the slider and opposite side.
After seeing how poorly the dealer installed OEM cuts were made and treated, and how expensive and mediocre the aftermarkets were, I opted for factory all around with two rows of flip outs this time around.

Longboard: I was with my dealer last Saturday going through the options. We could not get the flip open windows to work in the ford system for the XLT or cargo van with windows all around? What did you order and when? I am trying to order a 130" wheel base low roof XLT or van.

Epps, the Ford system did offer up windows all around with flip open I believe when we were building mine, but that was for a long and tall van, so maybe it is related to the short or low roof.

Longboard, it is temping to order windows all around and then just make some nice snap on covers, though if I go that route, it looks like the flip open windows move to fourth row and I lose them on the slider. So many decisions!

Cool, thanks Longboard! looks like I have another option to check out before I order. I think it would add $500-600 to the invoice with privacy glass included, but that's still cheaper than one aftermarket window installed. I may just go that route.

By the way, does Longboard mean you're a surfer? I'm guessing since you ordered extended length, that's a yes ;)

I purchased w/ Xplan, which is right around invoice. At invoice it was $520 ($610 MSRP)
Privacy glass added another $575 ($675 MSRP)

Still a real bargain, ONE aftermarket window installed is around $1000.

My longest board is 9'6", so no problem there. And my longest skateboard is 46" (a G&S 46" pintail)
I needed the length because I had my custom built Sportsmobile Gaucho and locally built aluminum bunk beds designed to exactly fit the length of my 170" Sprinter. I salvaged them from the wreck and want to replicate the set-up w/ the Transit

Cool setup Longboard. I'm planing a similar Gaucho in the back for lounging and a panel bed above it.
Back in the '70's, I used to cut old water skis up and make longboards out of them, using the tip of the ski for the back of the boad as a kicktail. Tracker trucks and some 70mm Kryptonic wheels. I got a ton of road rash and scars from those boards!
I'm a kook surfer, but do a bunch of downwind SUP'ing here in the Columbia Gorge, hence the long van as those boards are usually 14 feet. I'm planning a rack to get them up on the ceiling of the van out of the way.

Yeah,it looks like the increase over the slider flip out glass (17C) and privacy glass (92E) to go full glass with privacy is $470 retail ($1095 vs. $625). I'm paying invoice as well, so it really is a bargain to go with all windows. I think some nice quilted velcro or snap on covers for them and you have the best of both worlds.
Do you have the order code for full windows with flip out 2nd and 4th row for the cargo van? Thanks.

We just put away the SUPs for the season. We use them on our lake and river system from home and don't transport, but I always want to have the ability to do so.
I used to pull the trailer more often with all the kids and boards, but these days it's nice being able to have everything in one vehicle inside. The bicycle used to be the biggest challenge.

No, looking at my order there are no codes, just description and price.

I own an Auto Glass Business and I know CRL makes quality sliders for trucks, I would Not have aftermarket windows installed. Most conversion windows are installed by cutting the hole and a frame fits the hole from the inside where screws are attached about every 4 inches or so, The screws fit in a grove on the frame of the glass pressing them together.... Everyone I have ever done was simply sealed by a piece of foam. Next conversion van you see, look at the rust that around the conversion frame. This is because when they cut the hole, no one covers the bare metal, the Foam holds water like a sponge and the metal starts rusting pretty quick, There is a Sprinter around town a shop installed 2 back glasses and this thing is so badly rusted, Its a white van and the rust marks are really bad. Since I started my own business, I do not do conversion windows so maybe they changed how there done but I cant see any other way really...

Sprinters with factory windows rust too.
Surprisingly, my Sprinter had no rust around the aftermarket windows nor the dealer installed OEM's despite the lack of corrosion protection following the cuts.
But I sure had a lot bad premature rust around the factory installed side moldings, the hood, and the roof!
I agree that cuts and additions will increase the possibility of rust, but using the Sprinter as an example is meaningless. They rusted out (especially the Arctic White ones) without any post-factory modifications.
