I’ve been taking advantage of every moment of unseasonably snow-free weather here in Tahoe so I’ve neglected this post a bit. Here’s what I’ve been up to:
 • Installed the shroud for the fan
 • Installed the shade for the Arctic Tern window. It does just barely graze my flare when the door is fully open so some sort of bracket stop will be made, similar to @VanMode in this post
 • Built a countertop and then ruined it, only to decide that I need a different shape anyway
 • Installed slides for the Airhead toilet only to realize that the orientation I have them gives a 150lb rather than 500lb pound rating, which is fine for me but not for long term or for everyone who will be in my van. I have a plan to fix it
 • Installed my backsplash
 • Started working on bed slats
 • Upholstered and installed panels in the bed area
 • Upholstered more of the van metal
 • Started working on upper cabinets
 • Installed bed reading lights
 • Test fit my faucet

Regarding: KITCHEN GLUE UP pic
Please report what the material is on kitchen counter top. Looks like I need some, oh, and all design and fabrication for your van is inspiriational. Thanks for sharing!

Ok, so all that impressive work and I'll be the guy that asks about the toilet slides. Is the reduced capacity because you used ones designed for drawer sides in an undermount fashion (maybe to save height), or is it something else? Upholstery looks great, photos of 8020 structures are helpful.

Looking great, Maia!

When you upholstered more of the van metal, particularly along those rounded inside corners, did you find that using 1 continuous piece resulted in wrinkles? It looks like you went with shorter pieces, and the technique of folding the edge looks very nice.

On a related note, did you (or try and ended up abandoning the idea) to insulate under the fabric?
Multiple pieces were easier in the corners. You can’t make it all the around the d pillars with one piece, and other areas it might be possible but is awkward. For d pillars if I could do again I would do 5 pieces total: three rectangles (one each pillar and the top cross bar) and then two wedge shapes for the corners, with folded edges.

I considered foam but it would be hard to bend on many of the curves and wouldbe difficult to tuck into the weather stripping. It would have covered some of the holes though. Maybethere’s a happy medium with some sort of foam over the holes, but you’d need to be strategic about the edges or they would be visible under the fabric. For me this is fine.

Looks like you get lots of questions today with all those pics -- one more for the list:

Are your Flarespace rings the ones from Flarespace themselves? Are you happy with how they maximized the E-W space? I'm still pondering if I want to order theirs or try to build my own in future-van.
Yes, and yes. I have 80 to 81” crosswise and buying the trim rings saved a ton of time

They’re designed to mount either way but have different capacity depending on the mount. I plan to move them to the sides but have to do some adjustments for clearance.

I glued two half inch pieces of Baltic birch and then used Wilsonart HPL in the color Manitoba Maple

Hey Maia
Your build is looking great. It also looks like you guys are making amazing progress. I have a similar 2021 148 HR coming in the same Avalanche Grey soon. Surprisingly the FlareSpace flares, I've already received come in what looks like a fairly similar-looking grey gel coating. I'm imagining you needed to paint the flares to match the van anyway, but I was wondering just how close this grey actually was against the Avalanche Grey finish of the van?

Thanks!

you guys = me myself and I. I’ve had help from a friend or two along the way but minimal compared to what I’ve done.

i didn’t see the unpainted flares themselves since they were shipped straight to VanCo NorCal who had them painted and installed. If the gel coat is similar to what comes on the trim rings, then it’s not at all close to Avalanche grey. Much darker.
