"best" power tool ecosystem recommendations

I've owned cordless tools from Dewalt, Milwaukee, Ryobi, and Makita (and probably some no-name stuff as well over the years). Ryobi impressed me the least on all counts - including their corded tools. I moved to Makita years back when their drill-drivers seemed the best at the time. Their stick vacuum is terrible - younger son has it. There are tools that they don't make that Milwaukee does. But... nothing significant from what I've seen.

My son is a setter at a climbing gym and they went through a few before settling on Makita for their impact drivers. FWIW, the latest generation are proving a bit less durable than the previous... but that's pretty harsh usage.

Only useful thing I can contribute is that we've disassembled some of the broken Makita tools and batteries (drop something from 50 feet up and it doesn't always go well). We've been able to repair some of the broken bodies; but that's hit-or-miss. But the batteries... they are using quality cells inside them and we found that good quality cells would cost us almost as much as their pack to build our own. That was unexpected. And encouraging, really.
