If you are new to the Forum:

Before you start a new thread about what you want info on ;

There aren't too many topics that haven't been discussed on the Transit Forum already, and have threads that can be read to obtain the information you are seeking.

Either click above in the headings page on "Home", "Active Topics" or "New Posts". You will most likely find a thread in one of those columns, pertaining to what you are interested in.

If you don't find a thread addressing your concern, in the top middle section of the page there is a "SEARCH COMMUNITY" field.

Type the topic you want info on in the box and click on the magnifying glass.

Why do this first? If there is already a thread, it's easier on everyone to keep the information in one place (Thread) rather than having it scattered all over in many threads. That way all of us can find what we need without reading every thread on the forum. :D

That's great.... but what IF there is no thread about my question... do I have to be a paying member to ask a question?

Where did "paying member" come from? No, you don't need to pay, to participate. Searching does make sense, yet, does not always produce results. Sometimes I can't even search up posts i know that i made, myself. If you're not getting results, then ask away.

Okay. "paying member" comes from the fact that I have clicked on every button... read the FAQs and no where do I see how to start a new question. I must be missing something.

Welcome. Go into the sub forum that is most applicable to your question, then click the "Start Discussion" forum in the upper right corner.

What ⬆ said.
The "sub-forums" can be found in the top right corner of the page. They are the five dots with a bar after each of them, directly to the right of the button saying "New ". Just click on those bars. It will open the sub-forums list.
FWIW, many changes to the forum since this was posted in 2015.
There are probably close to a hundred Threads on each topic now, with the info spread far and wide instead of being in any one area as a result of early posters starting a new Thread for each question that had already been answered.
So the initial post is no longer relevant . If you can't find an answer, ask away, you don't have to be a paying member.

Good Luck

When I've had poor results using the SEARCH feature on this website, even when using the exact title of the thread I'm looking for, I just go to Google and search with the exact same words and add "transit forum" and BINGO! What I'm looking for shows up, I click on the link.

It would make too much sense for the owner of this site to embed a google search bar.

Shouldn't it work the other way? Google should pay the site for the search data. Of course sophisticated folks know to just go directly to Google. The data from those elite users is probably the most valuable type.

Of course I am one who is reluctant to sign up to give my data to Ford for the free remote start feature and FordPass "Rewards" . Google already has my contact information, thanks. Hopefully the reason behind Ford's scheme is that Google won't sell it to them (yet), not that Ford is trying to get it in a less costly way.

Now if emoji's were on a pay per unit or only available to Premium users, that would generate some significant revenue 💲💲💲

If only, we could pin great threads to the top.

IMO a lot of it is laziness and a good bunch of people don't mind to answer again and again the same questions..
I remember that it took me evenings to read multiple threads to sort out how to use the 'engine on' connection to regulate my CCP connection to a water heater.
There were multiple bits of information across multiple threads and it just takes effort to sort it all out, most of the information is here.

One imperfect way to look through threads that had many replies or have been viewed most often is to use the filters.
I wish the Filter option would also be available on the Search Results - in the advanced section.

People should have to pass a test before they are allowed to post. 🤣
I was thinking a series of badges too o_O
Like a "BEMM badge" which means you have located and downloaded the BEMM
A "CCP badge", you have read and understand the current model year (or owned MY) CCP information

All members should be given like a 3 month notice before everything gets deleted.
Also before any new writeups are posted the Forum should be redesigned with categories and sub catagories.

Right now theres only the top category .
Example
Right now
Camper vans and conversions

So add categories or folders inside the camper van section

Power systems folder would be inside the camper vans forum

Inside the power systems folder would be

Solar folder

150 amp alternator folder

240 amp alternator folder

Dual alternator folder

Generator folder

Then folders for
Heaters folder
Showers folder
Toilets folder
Refridgerators folder
Floor folders
Walls folder
Cabinets folder
Lights folder
On and on

Then a miscellaneous folder where all of the questions get asked and then deleted within a
year.
The more categories the more organized it would become , just keep adding more categories as
the need arises.

Or for people who note their model year and basic configuration in their signature, Just sayin ... ;).
A sticky glossary of abbreviations and terms would be good.

Yeah, make that a requirement, posted along with your name and avatar. No vehicle info filled in, no forum posting access. There's been several times we get 2 pages into helping someone figure out a problem only to find out they have a 2002 Connect, and not an actual Transit!

There are a few compendiums, threads listing common issues, links to owners manuals, differences between years, FAQs, and the one I started with info about tire sizes. Maybe those type should be sticky threads that appear in their own column at the top of the forums so general info and most sought after info could be more easily found.

And a whole section containing threads about which is the best oil to use.
