I am having the hardest time finding any info on the smaller Transit Connect XLT cargo van all searches direct me to info on the larger models with the high roof and longer beds. I have a 2020 Transit Connect XLT LWB and the battery is located in the engine compartment not under the seat like the next models up. The problem is running cable from the starter batter to the cabin. The end project is that I will be running a Renogy DC to DC 50A charger with MPPT built into the unit. In order to work with the smart alternator I'm instructed to pull straight from the battery. I need to bring that line into the cabin and cannot find a good existing through point. If anyone knows of one or has done this/similar project not with the larger model transits I'd love some help. If there is no good through point, could anyone recommend a great location to punch through. My current thought is to have the house battery located in a case behind the drivers seat. My apologies if something regarding the smaller XLT has already been posted. It's not popping up in any of my searches.
I am more familiar with the full size Transit than the Transit Connect.
If Ford has provided a customer connection point for connecting user accessories, you should use this location and not what the renogy manual tells you to use.
Modern vehicle electronics are not the electronics of even 10 years ago. Don't get lulled into damaging your van by instructions from a battery to battery charger supplier.
Here is a video from Ford showing the powerpoints (12 volt outlets) available.
I did a quick search and did not see a body builders manual for the Transit connect, but it is likely that there is one.
Keep in mind that your desire for pulling 50 amps from the alternator doesn't mean that it is possible. You might be limited to pulling 10 amps from each of the 12 volt power outlets.
Which alternator do you have?
edit
This Ford web site indicates that the standard alternator is 150 amps (max at highway speeds)
On the full size Transit, the 220 amp alternator is rated for customers to pull ~ 50 amps from it for house battery charging.
Based on this information, and how similar vehicles behave, my suggestion is to change to a 10- 20 amp based battery to battery charger. The 50 is likely too much for that vehicle.
Thanks for responding. There are quite a few specific differences from the small cargo van Transit Connect. I am at a loss despite a lot of constant searching to find correct info on the alternator as well as confirming there is even a CCP or which alternator. The van itself despite being cargo is more in line with the passenger version or even a Focus shaped like a van. For further clarification I am using a Renogy DCC50S 12V 50A DC-DC On-Board Battery Charger with MPPT which is deceiving in the "50A" it's actually 25A for the DC to DC and 25A for the MPPT solar controller all in one unit. I'm doing a smart alternator test today on the alternator to see if the voltage stays stable during a drive to indicate whether or not it's smart. But, I feel this information should not be hard to find. If there is a shop manual anyone can refer to me or anything really. The owners manual is very generic. I'll try to look more for the Body Builders Manual you spoke of. I'm not familiar with those, but any info helps.
Regarding a through point from the engine compartment to the cabin.... late last night we did follow a group of wires through the firewall that goes through behind the glove compartment. I think this is my best route for the wire if CCP's are not existent. Hopefully I will further be able to confirm the "smartness" of the alternator which I assume would have to be smart given all the fuel saving technology loaded into this vehicle (ie. engine auto start/stop)
Thank you again harryn for your response and to anyone who can direct me to information on the smaller Transit Connect cargo vans.
