Definitely looks taller than that in your build. I'm about to build cabinets for a Chevy AWD then new Transit next year. I see some CAD in my future. Your kind of CAD (cardboard aided design), not that stuff those smart guys do on computers.

Ok, so I've been following various threads, as I build out my 2020 Transit HR extended. And as I finish the wiring, electric and water boxes, and bed frame, I'm almost ready to tackle the kitchen area cabinets. Admittedly, this is a topic I haven't researched as much yet.

So I was thinking, why not go higher on the lower cabinets, like 38-42"? It's not that much higher.

The thought process was that, since you don't want the upper cabinets to hang too low (for bed head clearance and counter working clearance), all the space between the countertop and the upper cabinets could be considered as semi-wasted space, and that the higher the counter the MORE space UNDER the counter for drawers, storage etc... You know, a more efficient use of what little space you have. Hey, I was a submariner in an earlier part of my life.

I get that the space BETWEEN the cabinets is important also, but isn't the space under the countertop more important? Are there aesthetic issues to consider? Any feedback regarding this issue from those of you who have considered this before would be much appreciated. I'm looking to see what kind of dimensions people use on their counters, and more importantly the upper cabinets.

If there are any applicable thread topics, link them here also.

I don't recall any threads.

IMO - There is no magic to what height a base cabinet should be. If you are comfortable with the ergonomics of a counter that is higher (or lower) than the typical 36" then go for it. Heck if you are tall (ish) then higher base cabinets may be preferable.

At least one side in my layout will be a 37-38" for a couple of specific reasons (not to squeeze out a few % more general storage). Funny thing is that I guess I am so used to standard height counter that when I simulated 38" I swore I could notice the difference. I'd bet if the fact was unknown to me ... I hope

cabinet height is 100% personal preference. standard household is 36" give or take. i went 35 because it maximized some things i wanted (mostly the interior space for Wast/West bed), and also didnt block the window as much. my four wheel camper had super high counter, to maximize storage. im gonna say 42", i hated them actually, things like brushing my teeth sucked...

Thanks for all the sentiments given, I agree with them all. Since this my first try at something like this, I was curious what others were doing, and if there were any primo threads I had missed. When I get to it, the cardboard mockup will decide it. Got go finish the electrical and get those walls up first.
