My van came with the audio head unit MFD pack 22 Mid Radio with SDARS/HD/SYNC Gen 1. I replaced it recently with a Pioneer AVIC-8200-NEX using the metra dash kit.
The head unit works fantastic, but I'm not able to get the steering wheel controls working with the Axxess BX-FD3 harness. Reverse, parking brake, speed, acc, illumination all worked out of the gate with that unit, but after checking and rechecking many many times I still don't have any steering wheel controls.
Just like the instructions (http://www.metraonline.com/files/products/INSTBX-FD3_web.pdf) state it powers up, flashes 6 times and then after a few seconds the LED shuts off.

I think there is something amiss with my van or the option I have as nothing in the BEMM matches the way my wiring harnesses are. I have nothing on pin 2 (diagram E145370), and it says nothing should be on pin 3, but I have a green wire with a blue stripe that reads 2.3v... The Axxess harness doesn't even have a wire on that pin...

I would imagine that the Axxess reads everything it needs off the two twisted CAN HI/LOW wires, and I know that the CAN wires are working as that is how my reverse, speed, parking brake, is working... but it bugs me that I don't know what this wire does...
Anybody have more information or some tips on how to sniff it out?

Anybody with the same Mid Radio AHU pack 22 that could take a look at their harnesses?

Thanks!

According to the diagram I have, the Green-Blue wire on pin 3 is the AUDIO MUTE wire.
Thanks, do you mind sharing that diagram? I've seen several but don't recall any that were otherwise accurate that depicted that wire.
Unfortunately it probably doesn't have anything to do with the problem with the Axxess controller not recognizing the steering wheel controls

Thanks

I would gladly share the diagrams I have if a forum moderator could let me know if it's ok. I don't know what the rules are about posting stuff like that, since their could be copyright issues? Fyi, all the diagrams I have I saved from the 3 day membership I paid $21.95 for from the Motorcraft website. Well worth the price if you are doing any mods to your Transit.

Which wires did you use for the steering wheel controls? I seem to remember 2 different pairs of "CAN" wires going to the audio module in that diagram. One pair was labeled H-CAN and the other was I-CAN (I think). Not sure what the difference is but maybe that's the issue? I can double check the wire colors when I get home tonight. I would still highly recommend you (or anyone else doing mods) to get the Motorcraft Service subscription. For $21.95 you can access all the schematics, disassembly instructions, etc for 3 days. It will allow you to print anything out. I chose the print to pdf option on my computer so I could just save them and print as needed.

Thanks I wasn't aware that the information from Motorcraft service was any more detailed than the latest BEMM (with regards to the radio wiring harnesses), I have no problem paying for it if thats the case. Thanks!

Has anybody else successfully made the steering wheel controls work with an aftermarket radio?

The 4in Multi Function Display harness

Yes I have full steering wheel controls, auto detect with the ASWC-1 wasn't perfect (the PTT button changed input modes), so I did the manual programming and set long press features while I was at it. Overall, very happy with how it's working

I'm not able to run the voice command vehicle health report, but I am able to pull all of that data from my odb2 bluetooth adapter to my phone.
