I'm in the process of installing a couple of these to help out with parking at night.

These will not be of interest for you stealth guys, unless you put a switch on them. Bright! I'm wiring them to the reverse light circuit of my trailer hitch wires.

I'll post some pics when I get them installed, hopefully tomorrow.

BTW, I found some small square ports under the van forward of the rear bumper. They are a couple inches across and covered by pop out rubber covers that come off easily. This would provide easy access to the underside of the van for shore power or other lines.

Will be interesting to see how the lights work out. I have the 4 user defined switches and have thought about using two of them for additional front and rear lights.

That's my plan as well for aux front lights, trigger them with one of the user defined switches.

For now I'm just going to tap the reverse circuit, but if they work out well, I may add another just inside the top of the rear doors facing out as a work light. I would probably wire a switch at the back door for that.

Just reading the Amazon reviews, and there's a guy who took one of these, put it on a magnetic base, and wired it to a cigarette lighter plug with 12' of wire for use as a work light (attached photo). Brilliant idea! The draw on these is so low, you could run it for long periods without worrying about draining the battery.

I'm going to seal them up with a little silicone, but in general, they look pretty good for $16.

For forward lighting are you thinking fog and/or driving lights. If so, do you have any ideas for mounting these?

Now that I have backed up in the dark, the stock Transit backup lights are good so may not add lights. In front I would mount a light centered in the bumper lower opening. Light would be more for camp site lighting than for driving. Seldom used the fog lights I bought with the Sprinter. Will decide on lighting later. First I need to complete the conversion.

Well, I have to say I'm really really happy with my fog light install, but the aux back up lights were overkill and I'm going to take them off. In a nutshell, they're just too bright. I tried turning them to the side, but even doing that they blow out the back up camera. Another issue I encountered is that they're so bright that I ended up putting some socks over them to back into campsites so I wouldn't blind everyone. On a dark rainy night in the city they might be ok, but they're bad news for campgrounds.
Anyway, for now they are coming off.

Anyone considering extra backup lights might want to consider more than 2 backup lights are illegal in some states.
If you add any it might not be a good idea to have them automatically come on when in reverse, have a switch to disable them if backing up in view of the cops!
just saying.

JP4- thank you for thinking of your fellow campers- I recently encountered a motorhome in a campground that had an extremely loud backup beeper! I think it must have come off of one of those 50 ton rock quarry dump trucks and was specially designed to be heard above 6 other trucks, the rock crusher and the blasting operations.
Of course the guy that had it was also one of those people whose wife and him were yelling back and forth for 10 minutes trying to back into a difficult site all the while beeping away. Jeez people buy a $20 pair of handheld 2-ways.

I installed a set of auxiliary back up lights underneath the van. From there the van blocks the upward angle of the lights so they don't blind anybody but they still give me additional light where I need it most for backing up. I also angle them slightly to the outside of the van to give little bit of side light. Technology Electronic device Lock Electronic instrument Padlock

I attach the bracket that I made for the lights to the bolts that are used to secure the bumper to the frame. I bought the correct size nuts to just screw onto the bumper bolts without removing the bolts or disturbing the bumper in any way. Unfortunately I don't remember what size nuts they were.

Be glad he wasn't backing in with a boat in tow
