Did that. The problem is that it returns ANY thread that might have the word "microwave" written once someplace in a ton of posts. Sorry, but that is not a terribly useful way to get answers to a very specific question. If no-one cares to answer this seriously, I may just need to do that deep digging for a simple answer.

If folks can answer my question, that would be great. If they can't, that's also cool. Perhaps someone else has the same exact question while this thread is still reasonably current, and will want to watch it for new answers. That's also cool. Maybe someone thinks it's dumb to put in a micro, and wants to say why. Again, cool.

BUT, if folks have a desperate need to use up bits complaining about how many bits this thread uses up, with little else added, well that's problematic.

I use a 600 watt microwave without a trim kit. Use a $50.00 K-Mart Proctor-Silex that has the old fashioned two mechanical dials. One for heat level and one for time. Does not have a clock or pushbuttons. Clock would always be wrong because I turn off the inverter when 120 volt power is not required. Eliminates one more drain on the house battery. The 600 watt (1140 actual) will run on my 1000 watt Magnum inverter.

It is mounted above the refrigerator so you can see in it. Instead of a surround I cut a horseshoe shaped piece of 1/2" plywood to retain the microwave. Plywood is bolted to the 80/20 structure. Also pop riveted aluminum angle to the steel cover on each side and bolted the angles down to the shelf the microwave sits on. Looked good and had no problem with it moving. Made a sleeve out of 1/4" closed cell foam for the glass rotating dish so it would not rattle or break while driving.

We're considering something similar, but in the cabinetry above the galley counter.
Did you do any anything special for ventilation, or is it pretty much fully enclosed above the fridge?

Just sits on the shelf with right side visible above the shower walls and the back about a foot from the van wall. The space between the microwave and the wall is the air path from the 4" x 4" hole in the floor out the Maxxair fan opening. The MW is inset 1 1/2" from front cabinet surface and plywood horseshoe hold down bolts to back of the 80/20.
