AMA 40" x 15" Half Slider Bunk Windows

I really like these windows for the driver and passenger bunk windows and I couldn't find many threads discussing them specifically. Lots of info on bonded window installation though.

Has anyone installed them yet? I like that the slider is large and closer to the frame size and that the edges are frameless, matching the factory windows. Any feedback is appreciated.

I installed three other AMA windows. It was a tad terrifying to cut a whole in my new van, but they went in easily and look great.

Funny I'm planning on using AMA windows as I like the clean frameless look on the outside.
The cutting of the hole does not worry me so much but the bonding the window to the van does. I keep watching windows about it and just have to get over it. I'm a big time DIY person having rebuilt car, house and doing just about anything I want to do so I should not worry about this.

The frameless look is what i like too. What side windows and where are you planning on placing them?

The bonding is shockingly easy and satisfying. Seriously, you just stick the window up and it stays put. Use ALOT of adhesive. The windows curve more than the body of the van does so make a big bead. I didn't on my first window and when the adhesive dried, I could see daylight through the edges. Went with a much bigger bead on the next two w/o issues.

I have the smaller version installed in my van. One on each side. The issue I could see with the larger version is that the curve of the sheet metal becomes much more of an issue. Window is flat, body panel is curved. Its noticeable on my windows, but only if you are looking. Sure you can bridge the gap with the adhesive but it will be just that much more noticeable. You will see a larger gap on the top and bottom of the window and any messiness of the install will be there for the world to see. The mistake I made with my install was that I got a bit too liberal with the primer and the window didn't fully cover it.

Ahh, that is a good point. What window size did you go with? Did you install center of the bunk area, top of bunk area? Do you have pictures? Good (unfortunate) tip with the primer.

I’m going with the smaller bunk windows, I think the are 9x30 or something like that. I like them because they are too small to climb thru for a crook. Also the AdWag kit is designed to fit them if you get the window kit.

I have a 148 WB Mid roof van. Installed forward and high on both sides. The placement is ideal for sleeping ventilation, we push air out the roof vent fan and that pulls air in through the bunk windows, we typically sleep with our heads near the window for a nice cooling breeze. The only issue with the sliders is when its raining, then we just reverse the fan so the air is blowing out the windows and it typically keeps the rain out.

I cut the ribs with a grinder and worked a saw blade down between the rib and wall to cut the adhesive. Make sure the grinding sparks don't spray the drivers compartment or you will light your seats on fire. Also don't spray grinding sparks at the rear door glass.

I Taped around the opening on the outside, but was a bit sloppy with the corners and a bit too wide. Put the window in the opening dry to see how much it covers.

Here is a photo of the Van mostly finished. Ive since replaced the upper Gray trim panels with some CVG western red cedar. The rear opening is also a bit more finished.

I installed the smaller AMA bunk windows. It was easy once I got over the hole cutting fear. These windows are nice because there is plenty of glass flange to cover a larger hole from cutting error. I also felt uncertain about bonding with polyurethane adhesive. I asked a glazer who used to do auto windows and he said that polyurethane adhesive is really strong. I have SikaFlex adhesive and primer at discounted price if you want it.

Trim Lock edge molding for Window Installation

30 ft of TrimLock. I was going to install a bonded glass window in the sliding door but went with Arctic Tern instead. Trim Lock is long enough for two windows in sliding door. Buyer pays shipping. I paid $78 from VanWindowsDirect including shipping.
