So my ceiling and flat wall areas are insulated with rigid polyiso foam, and I'm about to ask a local auto/RV upholsterer to apply vinyl (similar to auto seats) to cover the curved sections of exposed steel eg the 5 inch wide interior ribs. If he simply glues the stretchy vinyl on directly, those surfaces will continue to be cold spots, but the stretchy foam underlayer shops typically use eg in an auto headliner is open cell and essentially a sponge. My heated van will get used in snowy winter climates, so I'd like to do this right. Suggestions on a thinnish conformable underlayer to go under the vinyl?

Thanks. I should mention that I have a big roll left over of the 100% pile I used as a fuzzy headliner on ceiling....its like the stuff you see inside lined Snugtop toppers. The reason I'm not using the fuzzy stretchy pile on the doors is that they'll occasionally get rained on when open. I figured vinyl would therefore be better, if I can pad underneath say 2 mm of something slightly insulating but water resistant.

Maybe the vinyl is impermeable enough that standard open cell foam will stay dry.
