Hey everyone I'm looking for some advice or suggestions for connecting a LED under hood steip light to my 2017 Ford Transit 350 XLT. I have the LED strip light but I'm not sure if I can connect it to a fuse in the engine compartment fuse box using a tap. If so which fuse should I use as I only want the light steip to have power when the vehicle is on. Any suggestions or advice?

In the Battery Junction Box (BJB) under the bonnet, you will find numerous ignition switched fuses to choose from, run a "Add-A-Circuit Fuse Tap Adapter" and bobsyauncle.

How are you going to turn it on and off? In your scenario are you going to have the strip lighted when the engine is on but the hood closed? Not sure if you want to do that. You only want the light to come on when the hood is raised, no? You can run an in-line switch between the strip and the fuse to power. Then you'd have to turn it on and off when opening the hood. That way it would only come on when switched on, say at night. Or you can install a spring loaded button switch near one of the hood rests so it turns on and off when you raise & lower the hood. I did the latter but it took a little more time and engineering. And it comes on when the hood is raised, even in the daytime. Also, LED strips are not necessarily heat resistant and can 'wear out' over time. Mine started outputting less light and some of the LED's quit working. I swapped mine out after about 5 years with a new strip no problem. Or you can use a high output bulb in the same manner.

So where is this located at? I can see the jump point for the battery and of course the fuse box but not sure where you are talking about.

No this is a RGB LED light strip that you mount along the edge of your hood to make it light up and glow. I want it to turn on when the ignition is on. The light strip has a remote and can be controlled by a app as well.

I can mount it in the passenger compartment fuse box but that requires I run additional wire from the engine compartment to the passenger compartment.

OK, I was thinking that you wanted an engine compartment light (like cars used to have in the old days) so it out light up when the hood (bonnet) is open. Are you talking about outside of the engine compartment?

Look in the unused fuse slots, you will see that some have the power side there, you just need to tap one.
