While I am waiting for seat installation to be fixed by another company. I did some upgrades to the Transit.

-Changed out Factory Speakers and added sound deadening. Sound deadened all sides in the rear, sliding door, floor, and roof.
- Installed 2 overhead monitors with DVD player
- Installed USB charging port. This actually was a perfect fit in the factory 12V socket.

Can you tell me about ambient sound levels and road noise before and after? I have a Transit ordered and I am considering installing Dynamat or something similar when it comes. The Transit we test drove had more road noise than I had hoped.

Seeing as I'm a rookie at this, is the silver backing the deadening material you used. If so what brand did you use. I'm in the same boat as Deem Time. Thanks

There is a significant amount of road noise in the vehicle. I had some old GTMAT laying around from my installation days. That is what I used on the side panels in the pictures. I used the Noico 80 mil from amazon for the rest.

[ame]http://www.amazon.com/Noico-Self-adhesive-Deadening-Automotive-Insulation/dp/B00URUIKAK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1436795469&sr=8-4&keywords=sound+deadening[/ame]

This was the best cost value. So far I have only done the rear of the van. Floors, Roof, walls and sliding door. I also found that there is no fiberous sound deadening except in the front cabin. I put in the mat, and added some cotton padding to certain panels. We took a drive to Atlanta yesterday and the wife said the difference was huge. The front still needs work, and I have an air leak in the sliding door to resolve. You need to pay special attention to the wheel wells. I have not done the front yet, need to pull the front seats to get the carpet out.

I have not changed the front speakers, yet I will be in the next few weeks. I have only changed the middle ones. I will be buying component speakers and will need to run new wires from the crossover to the woofer and tweeter.

Here is the USB charger.

I like this one because is has the high current port. It was an exact size to replace the factory 12V port. (cig lighter).

Thanks hawkeng. Please let me know if you see the wires from the door speakers to the tweeter locations cause I pulled the a pillar off a little and it kinda looks like they are there already. I couldn't get the pillars off all the way to see but I may give it another shot this weekend cause I want to do components as well.

Looks really nice. Can you tell me how you mounted the screens? Did you screw through the headliner or cut some out for mounting into the roof truss? I am looking to put in a roof mount for our TV. It will be about 14 pounds total. But, reading elsewhere on this site about the weak roof I am concerned. I looked through the upfitter manual and didn't find anything. They show suggested drilling an mounting points on the sides but nothing on the roof. I emailed Ford but haven't heard back yet.

The Front monitor is mounted on the junction of the Driver and rear headliner. In this install, I screwed through the headliner into the roof truss. I ran the wired at the seam of the headliner. The rear TV, I actually needed to make a brace structure at the seam of the 2nd and 1st segment of the head liner. I used a 1/4" Steel strip. It was about 2" wide and 36" long. I bent it to match the contour of the AC ducts and used another steel strip to make a "braket" to mount to the roof truss. Once the bracket was made, I put the roof liner back into place and screwed through the head liner and into the steel strip. This is holding as a good support structure.

The media button only works the AUX input below the AC controls. The DVD player has FM modulation support. Which means it transmit an FM radio station for the Radio to pick up. I normally force the kids into wireless headphones though.

I purchased the sanme port and installed it today. You can pop the bezel right out with a screw driver. There is a one piece connector but if you break it off you can reuse the same connectors. The center terminal in a 12V plug is + and + is marked on the new connector.

Your set-up is the best I think for a low roof wagon.
How much time did it take to remove all the interior panels you had to remove to put in the sound deadening materials?
Is that a one day job in the garage...or a weekend job...or even longer since the Transit is soooo much surface area?

Also, how did you get your two overhead dvd players to play the same movie simultaneously?
Did you just use an AV 3.5mm cable from one to the other?
Please be specific, thanks for your help!

Sorry I took so long to respond. I have been busy with the family and more van upgrades. For the Video, The rear video is only a screen and the input is connected to the output of the front unit. I just keep the kids from playing with the inputs. The front unit also has HDMI input, so I connect my Iphone to play movies too.

As for sound deading, This was a several weekend effort. I fit it in when I had time. I basically had to pull every seat, side panel and roof piece. It was worth the effort as the vehicle is so noisy. I still have more work to do. Front doors and undercarrage.

Do you have links for the screens you used?

We got our 2016 Low Roof Transit a couple weeks ago and I was hoping to do a similar setup with the dual flipdown screens for dvd.

Thanks.
I used this unit in the front:

[ame]http://www.amazon.com/Concept-Chameleon-Overhead-Monitor-Built-/dp/B017R181RS/ref=sr_1_3?s=car&ie=UTF8&qid=1463580177&sr=1-3&keywords=overhead+dvd+player&refinements=p_89%3AConcept[/ame]

The only reason I did, was that it had an HDMI input. This allows me to connect Iphone for netflix streaming.

I used an old Alpine monitor I had lying around from an old install.

I will tell you that I do not like how the Concept unit mounts. It also requires a Remote control to start a Movie.

On your usb dash unit -- Are you getting electrical noise from it? The units I've tried all cause a considerable amount of electrical noise; which is a pain in the tukus. When I'm in the boonies it makes it hard to use while tuning for a game or NPR. I tried shielding them with various metal wraps and a magnetic pad, no help.

I have no noise from the unit. It is just a replacement for the 12V outlet that was there.
