I searched the forum on how to remove the A-Pillar trim pieces. I couldn't find any details or pictures on how they are actually removed. Many on the forum wrote that they "just pop off" In my attempt today, I was able to easily get the upper part to pop off and away from the air bag, but as hard as I tried, lift, rotate, pull, I can't get the driver side to come free. I even wrote Surly Bill asking how he did it and wrote that he "just popped the cover off"

Next step, Looked on E-bay for one for sale that has been removed and shows pictures of the part off the car. I found some good images, and it appears that on one edge of the front bottom there is what appears to be a push tab. Tomorrow, I will try to release the tabs and lift.
If anyone has any suggestions, on their removal technique I would appreciate it.

Just saw your second message. I don't really remember if any other dash parts need to come off, I recall just popping it free and lifting it out. The pics look like there's that one big tab at the bottom that needs to get pushed in by a screwdriver or something. Maybe you're right, and you have to go at it through the cupholder. I think THAT just has a single screw hidden under the rubber pad on the bottom.

Thanks for the video, but I figured out how to remove the trim piece before I saw your post. Of course the person in the video can remove the trim piece in a minute, and it took me close to 20 minutes.
  • I figured out how to remove the cup holder, no problem.
  • I readily pulled the top of the trim away from the pillar as far as possible, and then tried to lift off the trim piece. No go! The piece wouldn't release or lift up no matter what I did.
  • On closer observation, I saw 2 things keeping me from removing the trim piece. (I physically had to pull the piece at an angle and look closer to see what the problem was.)
1. My trim piece has a plastic loop that has a twist to remove tip on it where I had to reach in with needle nose pliers turn it 90 degrees, and push down to slide it through a slot in the trim piece. (It must be there to retain the trim piece when the airbags deploy.)
2. Those crappy retainer clips that Ford uses! One of them bent backwards in their slot, (Like so many do in the other trim panels one removes.) With it being bent, the very end of the retaining clip was still in its slot, and prevending the trim piece from being able to be lifted up and out. I had to reach in with a long pair of needle nose pliers and pry the POS out of the slot, breaking off one of the tabs.

Now the next challenge. How the heck does one route cables to the middle of the Dash! No visible way to do this!
Do I have to take a lot of the dash apart?

Adding a link to a dedicated thread on how to route wires across the center of the Dashboard / Head Unit, across and up the driver side A-Pillar.

That panel on top of the dash right in front of the steering wheel pops off with a trim tool. In Europeland, that is actually a cubby, with 12vdc power! (like the 2020 Transits have)

With that off you can get pretty close to the middle of the dash. I fed wires through to the Metra doubleDIN stereo adapter through that. A lot of blind poking to get around the hvac vent, but it can be done.
