I have heard from one dealer at least that the 3.73 limited slip axle is on a material back order and the dealer I spoke with couldn't even price it.

Does anybody know anything about this, and if or when new vehicles can be ordered with this option?

No order problem with the 3.73 limited slip axle on the Transit. You might try to find another dealer, especially if he can't read the Ford price for it.
MSRP for the 3.73 Limited Slip Rear Axle is $325 with dealer invoice cost $277.

Let me know where you are located and I maybe able to put you with a Ford dealer that knows something about the Ford Transit. If you don't get the right dealer, then you may not get the right Transit you ordered!

Thanks CrewVanMan,

Glad to hear the limited slip is available. Sounds like the dealer is full-of-it.

I'm in southern Indiana (Evansville). I've been to all three Ford dealers around here (3). The best guy seems to be Pat Allen at Town and Country. He did not give me this info about the axle backorder, and when I tried to ask him about it, I found out he is on vacation until Nov. 9. Guess my order will have to wait.

He quoted me a price at about $1000 above invoice on roughy a $35,000 vehicle (including destination). He's slightly dishonest. He quoted me "invoice" prices for options that are 6% above true invoice (according the NADAguides), he then adds a $59.25 gas fee (at least I get the gas), a $589.25 advertising fee, and a $199 documentation fee. His cut on the options amounts to about $175 above true invoice. Not sure if there are other fees, especially if I try to finance it. His price was about $800 less than their competitor down the road. The third dealer, in Mt. Vernon, wouldn't price out a 2016. Found something in New Jersey (yes! New Jersey) similar to what I am looking for and then gave me a price very similar to the 2016 build that I'm trying to buy.

From what I've read on this forum, paying $1000 above invoice is not a great deal but it might be the best I can get locally.

The van will go to Quigley's before I get it, but the 4x4 price is set by Quigley's. It''s the medium roof, T250, 130 WB, with the 3.7L engine.

So true about these dealers being clueless. I say Transit Cargo Van, the large van, and the guy keeps pointing to the Connect saying, so that's what you want? This is the same guy trying to sell me something in New Jersey, and he's the one who said the limited slip was on "material backorder". I thought it pretty weird that he couldn't even price it. Guess he was just trying to sell me something off the lot.

If you know anybody in Evansville, or have some advice, I would truly appreciate it. Louisville is about 2 hours away. That's the closest city, but that might be a hassle. There is also Henderson and Owensboro Kentucky. Both towns are less than 1 hour away.

JAD if you know all the options you want e-mail them and let them give you their best price. I didn't even use the options I just started at dealer invoice and below and see what they said. Then ordered with all the options I wanted. It's a start. On the lot available is going to be a different story on negations.

I just got a text this morning that my order with a 3.73 was locked in for production yesterday, so I assume they have at least a few lying around.

I don't have any good buying advice - we buy them for our company and go straight to the fleet managers, who usually cut to the chase and skip the B.S. I'm sure that if I was willing to spend a day calling and emailing every dealer in the state, I could get from $300 over invoice to invoice, but I can make more than that working, which I actually enjoy doing...

All good advice. I'll craft my best deal. At this point, I'm far more informed than your average customer.

I did what wgc did: put together a list of option codes, then emailed to several dealers (straight to fleet managers when possible) asking for lowest price. Two were about $2000 higher than the other two.

Btw there is a Sportsmobile upfitter facility in Indiana, and they buy Transits from a local dealer (Crain*Ford,*Warren*Indiana). Lots of other upfitters in Indiana too. So some dealers will have high volume.
