2D Drawings

Looking for some Transit cargo 148WB MR 2D drawings for laying out camper/conversion plans. Easily found for Sprinters, but have seen nothing for Transit.

The Transit 148wb interior cargo length appears to be 11" longer than the 144wb Sprinter,...but both the same width (69").

Actually, the Transit is quite a bit wider than that where it counts. At the window height it's about 76" wide and tapers less than the Sprinter as you go up. No problem sleeping across if you're 6' or less. I easily fit a standard full size futon across my Transit.
Sorry can't help with drawings.

You might want to check orton's DIY thread here (as you may have done already):

For instance, re sleeping sideways:

BTW you can "Search this Thread" once you are there for other info..

PS congrats on the 4x4 order!

This link is not perfect but very useful for getting some dimensions (http://www.adriansteel.com/item/cargo-vans/ford-transit/)

This site has some top views and some downloadable files (http://cargovanconversion.com/plans)

If you find something better, please share. The models on sketchup don't appear to be dimensionally accurate for the Transit 2015.

What format do you want the drawings in? I have 2D drawings for a 148"WB high roof (not extended) van. At least they would be a start.

The trick for sleeping across the back of van is to utilize the window indents. Minimum insulation at window location to maximize the width. My bed platform will provide a 74" bed length at a 32 1/2" elevation above the top of the corrugated metal van floor. I removed the factory floor covering and will have a 1 1/2" composite insulated floor. (Pictures soon if I do not exceed this site's data limit)
The bed platforms (4) pivot down to rest on top of the 30" high table top. The bed platforms are 27" wide and are hinged at the side walls. Two on each side. Two back ones down for one person sleeping platform and four down for two people. Use two self inflating 24" wide camp pads/person for the mattress. Four total. During the day the bedding for the front bed is placed on top of the bedding for the back bed. Front two panels then pivoted back up so front half of table is usable for two people during the day.

I found this 3D Sketchup model. Maybe you can play around with it.

https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?id=5f9f9651083d52fbeebc86ab6de60935

You can use a free version called Make. I found it very easy to use.

http://www.sketchup.com/products/sketchup-make

It is not the 2015 US version but it is easy to resize.

Not bad at all for a free 3D version to be available in the way that is. Reason why I love communities like these, lots of great help, great people.

Thanks, I have been drawing my own "boxes" in sketchup to use as a van model, but getting all the 3D dimensions is hard, and without the proper angles for van sides and exact door openings I can't do more than a rough approximation.
FWIW, here's a link to a Google Drive folder with the preliminary sketchup plan (.skp file) for my (yet to be delivered) HR EL van. Also have a fairly current parts spreadsheet there, and a few .jpgs that I can't remember the reason for posting.

I am sure the dimensions are somewhat off, and I haven't drawn any walls.

Bought a 148WB, Medium Roof, 3.5L today. My build is to be similar to the Sportsmobile 131S....hmmm, cannot seem to download that,...it calls for a jackknife sofa behind the driver seat, and cabinets on both sides. In the far back, a low structure on one side for a Thetford 550P.

As my plan was for a regular roof Sprinter with a penthouse, I'll have to rethink the higher space, but will likely be cautious about adding weight there.

I had the same problem. Using a free program Inkscape (which produces easily editable SVG files), I took some images from Ford manuals and promotional literature (which I can't seem to find now), lightened them and put them in the background. I had to do a little surgery on the floor shots to produce an extended length van. I drew in the layer above using a scale factor to create dimensions that matched those found in various Ford documents.

I saved copies in pdf format for sharing. This was done some time ago and have not updated the attached drawings lately. The whole approach is a bit crude but when I actually get a Transit maybe I'll overlay more detailed drawings over photographs. Depends on who needs what.

Those are informative,...a blank of #3 is one thing I'm looking for,...so I can print and draw on it. Something like the attached,...but of course, in a 148WB MR

I am not convinced of the accuracy of the dimensions shown in those drawings.
For example, the 3rd party drawing (above) shows the EL HR cargo length at 159" at floor level.
The Body Builder's Layout Book shows the cargo length for the EL HR at the floor as 172.2", and at belt height as 162".

Until Annie arrives and proves me wrong, I'm going with the Ford documentation.
See L202 and L204 on pages 16 and 17 of https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas/topics/2015/2015_Transit_v1-1.pdf

Getting closer,...if this one had an interior grid with the exact position of the wheel wells,...would be the tool the sketching out different plans,..electric plans, floor plans, plumbing plans, etc

Not interior drawings, but there are some exterior drawings of the Transit on Etis:

https://www.etis.ford.com/bemm/bemmCadSelectionForm.do
It is under "Information" - "Vehicle Conversions" - "BEMM Drawings"
Note: When you click the "I accept the conditions" link - it may take you back to the "BEMM" download tab. Just click the "BEMM Drawings" tab again to get back to the right place.

DWG format, so you will probably need to download a viewer, these ones work well for me:
Autodesk DWG TrueView
http://www.autodesk.com/dwgtrueview
or
eDrawings Viewer
http://www.edrawingsviewer.com/

Hi Orton,

Could you possibly send me these files as well? It would come in very handy for our conversion layout. Cheers, Terence M.

Any chance you could possibly share these with me if they exist? new to the forum and planning my first van conversion
Thanks

Go to ortontransit.info for printable PDF drawings. Also lots of conversion information that may be of use.

PM me for any questions.
