Im getting a Telescoping Ladder like below
and store under van - the good ones are nice -
using ladder like this = no worries about strange people climbing on van

The roof box is great for gear we don't want underfoot in the living space, we keep the camp chairs and folding canopy, fishing poles, bike helmets, etc. up there. I'd get another one if I didn't need to put the boat up there.

I have one of those telescoping ladders to access, it stows easily inside the van.

This one is excellent. A bit pricey, there are cheaper ones but I didn't buy them so I have no idea if they are high quality.
