Window Covers: Ford Transit Van Medium/High Roof

Due to COVID-19, or current production time is about 6 weeks. *Fabric Change (as of 12/7/2020), we now have a new fabric with colors: Nickel, Camel, Smoke and Asphalt. Please see the sample photos. Actual photos of the covers have not been updated site-wide. Made to add privacy while camping and to help regulate the temperature inside your van. Using a water-resistant polyester fabric (will not trap condensation like natural fibers will), Low-E insulation (aluminum creates a thermal barrier) and high quality rare neodymium magnets, these insulated window covers create a clean and stealth appearance. All covers are magnetic (besides the windshield) and install in seconds. They will not move or fall down, even if the door is slammed. Now offering four color choices. Black fabric always faces out, but you choose in the interior-facing color. The insulation we use allows us to keep the black fabric on the exterior, you can read about the insulation below. Handcrafted in Santa Cruz, Ca, by us, not outsourced. All sales are generally produced in the order that they're received, but we often make small batches of similar orders. Full-Kits are about 6 weeks out, but smaller orders might get sewn in a batch and turned out sooner. Storage bags are included on all orders. Colors: Fabric swatches are free, just email us your shipping address. Nickel: Very light grey. Camel: Nice and warm tan. Smoke: Dark charcoal grey with an evergreen hue. Asphalt: Black. "Full Kit": Includes the Windshield, Front Doors, Slider Door, and Rear Doors. Additional Items: Fan Covers, Half-sliders and the Flip-Up Vent option are additional features and are not included in the Full Kit. Please leave a note at checkout if you do not have a rear view mirror OR select the add-on. "Crew Van Kit": This is for the new factory "crew" setup from Ford. Kit includes Windshield, Front Doors, Slider and opposing Crew window and the rear doors. The slider and crew windows have plastic trim, but we will send our adhesive steel to add to the edges of the glass. Send us an email with any questions. Fan Covers, Half-Sliders and Awning-style: They all come with instructions to install thin steel strips on the backside of the fan trim piece via 3M VHB clear adhesive tape. They do not interfere with the trim piece sitting flush against any roof surface. The covers have eight large magnets sewn in and attach to the outside of the plastic trim. Will fit both Maxxair and Fantastic Fans. Half-Sliders: We make them for the CRL 10x33", Motion 10x36", and Hehr (RB Components) 10x36" windows. Awning-style CRL 10x33"+ windows are now available (the bottom tips out as opposed to the half sliders that slide horizontally). They too need the steel strips added in between the screw heads on the aluminum frame. We will send the steel strips backed with the VHB tape. You will need a pair of tin-snips or strapping cutters to easily trim the steel strips to fit in between the screw heads. The covers can also be left in place and folded forward in half to access the vented portion (they are held in half magnetically). CRL Vented Windows: If you have a CR Laurence T-Vent window installed we make a partial flip-up section that allows the vent to be accessed with the top 2/3's of the cover in place over the glass (slider and "crew" only). If you have the CRL slider door T-Vent, simply add the "Flip-Up for Vent: Slider Door" option to your order. If you have the CRL T-Vent on the "Driver Side Forward Window" position (we refer to as: "CRL Crew Window"), select the "CRL Crew Window" option. *Note: If you have any tweed or fabric covering the metal up to aluminum frame, please leave a note at checkout because they require stronger magnets. If your "Crew Window" is boxed in with custom wall paneling (wall paneling up against the aluminum frame), leave a note at checkout. We can make a cover to fit the frame and send steel strips, like the Half-Sliders. *Made for North American Ford Transit Cargo Vans, not the Passenger Wagons with plastic trim. *Low-roof Transit cargo vans and Mid/High roof cargo vans with "All-Around Glass" (no plastic trim): We have all the patterns. Email us because there are so many different configurations, it's too much to list on the webstore. We've made many and have the patterns ready. Storage: Stitch lines are horizontal on the rear doors so you can fold them partially down. All other windows have vertical stitch lines for support and to decrease their size when stowing away. A set of front doors, slider and rear doors fold down to a bag that is roughly 8"W x 30"H x 5"D. Fabric: Polyester fabric that is UV stable and will not fade in the sunlight. Urethane coating gives water resistance and paired with the Low-E, the covers will not trap condensation. No mold or rot like natural fibers will (mudcloth, cotton, or duck canvas). Low-E insulation: USA-made, mold-proof and waterproof, light weight, non-toxic, no fiberglass, great thermal performance and manufactured using a polyethylene foam core with reinforced double sided aluminum facings. Creates an excellent thermal barrier. Learn more about Low-E. Rare earth magnets: We use high quality grade 42 nickel-plated rare earth block magnets that have a pull strength of over 6 pounds each.       I actually contacted the guy who makes these a while back when trying to think ahead about my first window-cover project (still waiting on the van delivery).

      The designer owns a passenger wagon Transit himself, and he says he loves it. I contacted him because I was curious why they suggested their "suction cup" versions with passenger wagons while the cargo vans could use the neodymium magnets. The magnets have obvious advantages.

      He said the interior trim gets in the way of the magnets. I was basically already imagining his exact design when I found his product. It's quite pricy, and I was looking forward to learning about sewing and materials. I'm interested to experiment with magnets with the factory interior trim.

      If I ever get this van, I will share what I learn!

      No matter what kind of Tint you put on the windows everyone can see inside at night when the lights are On.
      Window cover will be required and can get expensive but they will also help with insulation.
      These are some of the better made lower cost ones.

      I was thinking to permanently block off the window with a wall if we don't need the window, cutting down heat loss. For those windows that we are keeping I will have Wifey to make the window coverings. She was a professional seamstress when she was in her teens and before graduating from college. She still has her Juki sewing machine when the factory closed down.

      Welcome. Congrats on the new rig!

      Note that many of the window cover options don't work with the passenger van if you keep the plastic in place. Only one or two DO work with the plastic - the rest use magnets that attach to the metal framing that is hidden by the plastic.

      Here's the options I considered. I ended up going with Van Essential and will need to find an alternative for the rear four windows.

      FWIW, one of the versions I looked into was based on removing the stock passenger walls and taping steel tape to the back of the plastic covers so the magnetic covers worked as if there was bare metal. Can't recall which one. 🤷‍♀️

      Here's the dump of ones I looked into:

      Thanks for putting that list together. I ordered some more Van Essential covers to see if theres a way to make them work, and how the sizing might be.

      I talked to Strawfoot a while back because he had posted a window cover on the forum that worked with his passenger, but he's no longer making them. Didn't love his suction cup technique anyway. I'd be interested in how Vanmade gear responds because they do indicate that they can do windows without the metal trim but I couldn't find any pictures on their site of how they do it. Do the Stelletek work with the plastic trim? They seem to indicate only metal, but say they "have other options available."

      I traded my van in for another truck so trying to unload some of the parts.

      First up is the Strawfoot Handmade window covers. I got the crew van kit, which is windshield, front doors, rear doors, sliding door and the fixed drivers rear window. 7 Pieces total with a carrying bag.

      Strawfoot includes adhesive backed steel to help attach the magnets to the door & crew windows. I only used some on my van, I will include the left over pieces. you should have enough to attach the covers but if you need more I'm sure you could order more.
