Exactly. The van will have a 120 VAC outlet (female) - no more dangerous than any other outlet. The trailer will have a 'shore power' inlet connected to an automatic transfer switch (example). That should ensure there are no live male connectors.
The motivation for considering Option 2 is having one less component. I realized that if I anyway have an inverter and a charger (which I will) then I don't need a DC-DC. But that reduction of components comes with an increase in complexity. Possibly if I go with Option 1 I'll spec a lower amperage for the 120->12V charger.
