I’ve been running a Webasto Airtop 2000 for the past five years and it’s never let me down—even camping in subzero temperatures. My van isn’t fully insulated; there are still plenty of gaps and unfilled spaces. The idea that every inch must be insulated is overblown. It’s a small space, and even in freezing conditions my heater has never needed to run above 25%.

Argue about it all day. It doesn't matter. Poly iso board and can spray foam. You'll be fine.

Like I said above, a full analysis of the thermal flow would be basically a final project for a college level course. I asked Gemini to examine the BEMM images and it determines that about 15% of the van is covered by support ribs. Reading through the image analysis assumptions, I can say this number is definitely low not high.

So 15% of the van would be losing 4X the heat. I still think that in the small use cases, this makes a huge difference.

Yeah yeah, I get the arguments for gas heat. But I need the driving range too. I would need to carry extra gasoline if I had a gas heater, and I am more comfortable losing heat in a bad situation than losing transportation. Different strokes. I realize my use case is very odd.
