LED lighting - playing with some ideas

I am not a fan of puck lights but like LED lighting in general.

Also I like products that work under extended range conditions, built in self regulation and work with 24 volt directly from the battery pack.

Ordered a few variations of these to play with. A couple of different colors and color temperatures.

As parts arrive, will post some photos.

They also offer 12 volt versions.

They are assembled in US, although the LEDs are from Japan, at least Nichia is a 1st tier LED company known for its light spectrum though.

At one point in my career, I was selling scientific spectrometers into the LED industry so the detailed spectrum and how it affects visibility are what I am going to be testing. Very simple testing - it has been almost 20 years since I had an LED test stand at home.

They also work at low temperatures ( - 40 C ), not just the LEDs, but the built in driver / electronics, and that is not so easy.

On page I think 11 - 13 range, they show the spectra for this 5000 K horticulture white part. People that are into that area use this type to enhance the early stages of plant growth. My main interest is that the spectra is fairly similar to HID lighting, which is well known for vivid colors. Also purchased some more traditional 3000 K, which is more of an evening lighting spectrum.

Bravo on finding a Japan/US combo LED. I have some from China. Didn’t look too far when buying. I have no complaints and love them for the infinite colors plus variable intensity and brightness. Strips are so easy and adaptable. I recently put up a soft cabinet and just rerouted the light strip around it.
If they break I’ll be looking to replace them from the source you found.

@harryn , Have you bought from that vendor previously? In looking at their website they have a decent selection of products. I don't do much anymore but 15+ years ago when I was building high power LED lights for night mountain biking, I had to get LEDs and optics from an outfit in Australia for high grade products in small quantities.

Yes I have been buying from them for a long time. Roughly since 2000 - 2005 time frame.

This was one of the first things that I bought from them way back.

One of my customers was Lumileds ( at that time philips lighting ). I was selling the mocvd epi reactors for making LEDs on top of GaAs wafers. Lumileds was extremely detailed and specific about their needs. I was trying to understand why and starting buying LEDs and building drivers as a hobby, along with a local hobby group that was in the San Jose area at that time. Later that job ended and I sold the scientific spectrometers to the same industry.

It is a lot easier to use LEDs now vs back then.

I placed the order for the those LEDs on Sunday and they were shipped Monday morning. The Aluminum channel I ordered a few days later since they are 1 meter long and I was thinking that I might need something else. It is noon on Friday and I have everything in my office right now.

The ones that I bought are the 12 inch version with wire leads soldered onto both ends. That way I can use them either as a 12 inch, join them together for longer runs, or cut them into two pieces as short as 3 inches.
