  1. 3.5L Ecoboost... best low speed RPM?

    Ford Transit General Discussion
Off road I am either in Tow/Haul or M. I don't think lugging at 1000 RPM is ever optimal for a modern gas engine. As a general rule I like to be at a minimum 1500 or above if the motor is loaded.
  2. How to attach to these slots?

    Camper Vans and Conversions
There are OEM panel fasteners that work with these. Pull some trim off and you will see them.
  3. Poll: Would you be interested in a larger fuell tank?

    Ford Transit General Discussion
I was originally convinced that I'd need a bigger tank so always carry 10 gal extra in two 5 gal Jerry cans. In my first 7,000 miles of use with multiple 500 mile days and lots of off-road in isolated locations, I have never needed the spare gas. So I recently put a 15 gal drinking water...
  4. Ford Transit 1, Hobda CRV 0

    Ford Transit General Discussion
So a commuter in a Honda CRV decided to switch lanes in a hurry yesterday and drove right into my passenger side front. I didn't even see them coming until I had successfully completed an unintentional "PIT Manouver". The CRV was pretty mangled over its rear 3/4. My Transit was totally...
  5. Get involved

    Introductions
Agreed, we went with external shower & toilet but ours is more of a weekend wilderness camper than full time living. I think you could do it if you installed side pods in the rear windows and have the bed E/W rather than N/S.
  6. Get involved

Make sure you really need the extended length. The challenges with the extended length version is that it seriously compromises off-road capability with restricted departure angle and its too long for most parking spaces.
  7. Alternate (larger) tires for 2015+ Transit

    Wheels, Tires, Brakes, and Suspension
Nice, what size and offset are the Method 701 wheels?
  8. Alternate (larger) tires for 2015+ Transit

    Wheels, Tires, Brakes, and Suspension
I definately cant get my 245x75x17" BFG spare under my 148" without compromising rear departure angle and ground clearance. So it now sits inside and spare gas/water cans are about to occupy the free space.
  9. Rules limiting travel with extended length Transit?

    Camper Vans and Conversions
This was part of our decision to get a mid length Transit. Many National and State parks and campsites have a 20' maximum length rule. I believe it was to discourage giant motor-homes and 5th wheels, which would get stuck in parks and campsites designed in the 50's and 60's. One recent...
  10. Maximum Possible Transit Ground Clearance

    Ford Transit General Discussion
Hey Catfish, great to see you on this forum. You did a fine job of remapping my Caponord back in the day! Steve
  11. Maximum Possible Transit Ground Clearance

    Ford Transit General Discussion
IMHO either of the current 4x4 Transit offerings, with 31" tires and shortened lower rear shock mounts are more than adequate for 90% of off-road use. The AWD Transit will need a 2" lift, 31" wheels and relocated lower shock mounts to get the same level of off-road utility. Rock crawling is...
  12. Worst Fear Realized.

    Camper Vans and Conversions
Ughh that's tough. Condolences and best wished for a speedy recover. Good to see how well the Transit absorbed the impact. Any thought on what caused you to pass out?
  13. Sub-freezing useable Lithium batteries

    Ford Transit General Discussion
Why not use deep cycle lead acid batteries? They are robust, work sub-zero temps and need a far less complicated BMS. For those who care about the environment, they are the only battery chemistry that can be fully recycled.
  14. NOT POSSIBLE To Add TPMS After Vehicle Purchase???

    Wheels, Tires, Brakes, and Suspension
I have the opposite issue and would gladly remove mine. There is a lot to be said for physically inspecting your tires and pressures instead of relying on the TPMS to tell you that you have had a blow-out. Not to mention that it drives me nuts when I air-down for off-road work lol.
  15. 12 volt power

    Camper Vans and Conversions
OP search on-line and download a copy of Ford's "BEMM". Its available as a PDF and will give you a head start on most of your conversion questions. I was 2 months in before I discovered there was such a thing and its saved my ass more times than I care to count. Ford's engineers actually put...
