Meh. Although I have a fancy drip machine at home, I use an MSR filter holder and manually pour my hot water into the filter when camping. Better coffee, more control than Kcup stuff. I like the novelty and convenience of the Kcup when I visit my Mom, but all that packaging seems soooo wasteful. My regular morning ration requires 3-4 Kcups. And the times when I want really gourmet coffee I take along a little hand grinder. I make my hot water on my $20 butane stove, which is compact, hot and fast, and probably less than 5 cents of fuel per cup of coffee.

Insulated French press (Starbucks has a nice one and I also like the planetary designs presses as they have lots of size options). Hario hand grinder and boil water on propane stove in van or jet boil.

While doing some housekeeping I found Bialetti 2-cup espresso maker I had stashed in a kitchen drawer and forgotten about.

It'll work on the induction cooktop. Cleanup is easier than a press, just unscrew the base, remove the filter, dump and rinse.

With that solved I then ordered a hand crank burr grinder to go with it ...

I'll get a bag of bean from a local roaster and should be good to go.

We use the Bodum Stainless steel french press. No glass to break when I drop it fighting that strong morning gravity. Also the Hario hand mill to grind the beans I roast ahead of the trip. For longer trips, we carry green, unroasted beans and an old popcorn popper to roast them so we always have fresh roasted coffee. Once you get used to coffee roasted within the last 2 weeks, everything else is swill.

As my user name suggests I opt for using coffee differently from the standard "Charbuck" fare. For my Golden Sour Ale I start with a base grain bill of pilsen malt, flaked wheat and torrified wheat mashed and spontaneously fermented with wild microbes. The ale is oak barrel aged for one year then "dry beaned" with a medium-light roast whole bean Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee bringing out the funky, stone fruit, lemon and mango notes. 5% ABV, 5 IBUs, 3.13 pH

Yeah gypsy, but that takes longer than a Kcup, or even pour-over drip. And it totally defies the baby Boomer motto; Convenience before People and Planet.

Maybe Gypsy Brewer could come up with a K-Cup version?
