modifying brake lights

I'm thinking of adding a brake light flasher to my van. Anyone do that yet? Trying to decide if it would be worth adding a bulb to the lower unused section of the light housing vs staying with the stock configuration. Not sure how a flasher would work with the blinker/brake light in one..... Open to ideas here before I do something stupid The reason for the flasher is to add visibility, seems I have a magic van with the powers of invisibility.... tired of getting rear ended!

You can not add more brake lights unless you have an trailer light plug, (Splicing into the plug wiring.) Because taping into the tail lights will throw an fault code and/or blow an body control module fuse.

(Swap brake signal for reverse signal in this document.)

How about a permanently on yellow strobe? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DK6SQC8...detail_4?psc=1

I know blue and red strobes are illegal. I don't know about the legality of permanently on yellow strobes or even yellow strobes that go on with brake lights.

You can use LED lights as a tap in and it won't blow the circuit but you can easily use a trailer harness that takes a power source to power the signal lights.

It's not a bad idea but I think these "drivers" might see the 5 on strobe effect then solid better? The truck I first saw these on were very noticeable and yet annoying at the same time Thought, perfect. LOL

I agree. Annoying is good. Just don't know about legality.

Hmmm, I was thinking of switching all the rear lights to super bright LED's, that should end up being less than the 10 amp rating. Including the 2 new ones in the lower light casing. I have the wire provision.... about it as far as that goes though. Other idea was hooking up the "flasher" directly to the brake switch to hopefully avoid any conflict with the turn signals along with the all LED swap out. Didn't know about the 10 amp limit there though. Thanks.

I did some checking and in Washington these are legal as long as they strobe within 3 seconds or so and go solid after that. These are getting pretty popular on bikes now.

Any idea if tapping in a the brake switch seems like a good option? With the LED swap. One controller does everything from there it seems.

Even yellow is legal if it stops strobing after 3 seconds? I think a separate yellow strobe would catch my eye better than the red brake light strobing and then going solid. Although maybe then I wouldn't know that yellow means you're stopping. oh well. Too bad you can't just keep a permanently on yellow strobe on the back. At least on the roof.

I've seen the motorcycles with those 3 sec brake light strobes. A pickup truck too. Better than nothing.

How about a separate red strobe mounted at eye level, like at the rear door handle level, kind of like a CHMSL? Or a separate actual red CHMSL at handle level with the 3 sec strobe?
