I got a Whynter 2.1 cf Freezer to try out -
this is a dorm fridge style design but with more insulation -
got a upright because it fits better in space available --
Im using freezer as a fridge -
has been inside a 76f office -during most of test
and so far what I have found on power use - quiet - etc
Fridge has been inside a 76f office -
Freezer/Fridge running on 120V grid power
Fridge temp is set to 28f to 46f range -
so far fridge has been using about 120 watt hours ish per day - Wow -Nice
that is Much less than Expected and also
less then Whynter 2.1cf chest fridge/freezer uses
with similar temperature settings and both on grid power -
Surprising the numbers are so low -
fridge is mostly empty but is opened a several times a day -
This is dorm style upright freezer and it apparently has more insulation -
The Heat is expelled by coils build into the 2 sides of the case -Ouch
unfortunately this is just like most other dorm style fridges -
I had been told the coils were Only in the top of fridge -
it looks like the door has thicker insulation than a stock fridge-
also no drink holders/shelves on the door -
a Killawatt meter is used for measurements -
to control the temp in the freezer a Willhi temp controller is being used-
the freezer is plugged into Willhi and it turns freezer on/off -
temp can be set to what ever -
controller is pretty nice - but UI is a little confusing -
Willhi temp controller uses 1 watt -
I did a short test freezer using a GoPower 1000watt MS inverter
powered by !00ah Calb Lifepo4 - Fridge starts/runs - good -
also tried using GoPower 300 watt PS inverter but
fridge would not start -
After StartUp watts are 80 ish and drops to low 60s -
dont have a way to measure Startup surge -
In office fridge is right next to me and I can not hear
it start or run -Nice
Whynter Freezer was recommended to me by another van traveler
and he has been using his for a while and is happy with it -
Next fridge will be installed in van -
Will test using both a
Gopower 1000 watt MS inverter-
Victron 1200 watt PS inverter -
See what the differences are in power usage etc -
purchased both fridge and temperature controller from amazon
