Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier for Transit

Hi guys,

We've been making spare tire carriers for years, but finally jumped in to making one work for vans with very tight tolerance between the hitch and the door.

Our Hitchgate Solo is designed to get the spare out from the inside/underside of the vehicle on on the hitch giving easy access to it.

Pull the pin and you have full access.

The secondary hitch allows you to tow up to 7500lbs with it as well.

Let me know if you have questions.

Here's an early prototype on a Transit.

I love this. Probably out of my price range. But I think this is a smart design and an effective implementation. I love the gas can integration. You've got full use of the rear doors when you pop this out?

Looks like it will block the OEM back up camera. Will you be making one that swings to the left ? Might not block the camera and the right side door is the one that opens first?

$499 gets you going unless you want the XL, that is a few dollars more.

Depends what you mean by "full-use"...can the doors pin back against the van? No. Can they open fully to get in the van...yes.

The spare tire will eventually bump against the brake light, so that is the only factor.

Not sure where the camera is located...in the license plate area or up top like a Sprinter? If the license plate...yes...it will partially block it...although the tire does sit in the center.

Would the hitchgate offset (http://www.wilcooffroad.com/shop/hit...-carrier-ford/) work on the transit? It appears that it would interfere with the backup camera and license plate far less.

wilco_offroad,

OEM backup camera is about 3" to right of center door opening and about 9" up from bottom of door. It is completely seperate from license plate area.

That tire/carrier blocking part of the license plate can get you a ticket in some states.....

I'm looking for a carrier like this which is available for Sprinters.

It mounts to the hinges so the door skin is not stressed.

I don't like a hitch mounted carrier because it make the departure angle much worse.
