I will be receiving my van back tomorrow morning with a fully functional automatic sliding door from powerdoorandstep.com. It's the Autocool slider that has been used in European Transits and Sprinters both in the U.S. and Europe.

Full review will be forthcoming!

I actually got the kit installed more than a month ago, and I've been 75% pleased. But the installer was working off of parts made for the European Transit and several of them needed adjustments made for our North American model. Just this Monday the owner/lead engineer for autocool flew in (from Israel) to have a look at my van at the powerdoorandstep facility in Van Nuys and sign off on all the updated parts. I got all new wiring, a new pneumatic strip (the pressure sensitive closing safety device), a different locking mechanism, and a new actuator. Hopefully my 75% pleased will turn into 100%, but I'll have to let you know tomorrow! I'm banking on everything working, because they told me 19 more Transits were on hold while they worked out my guinea pig of a van.

By the way, for anyone who's going to purchase this kit from powerdoorandstep, mention the code "PAXbaby" for $200 off. That's my business name.

My quick answer:
The door is AWESOME and worth the investment.

I'll take some videos later to give a more in depth review.

cool. i'm curious about robustness and longevity (of course.. and not that those can be evaluated quickly).. but also how 'integrated' it looks. does it get in the way of the jump seat that's by the door? some of the pictures i saw made it look like you had to add some component to the inside of the door

this would be a huge win for the family if it works...

Antran7, sorry to have disappeared on you: the flu swept through my family last week, one kid at a time. Recovering...
Here are pics of the interior cover plate. It doesn't touch the jump seats, but we did lose the middle seat's cupholder. Bummer. The curve of the plate isn't perfect, but it meets my standards. Truth be told, a lot of the Ford cover plates along the liner don't fit perfectly either. I'll grab more pics and videos later...

thanks for the pics! now that you've had it for a couple months, is it smooth sailing? or has it been glitchy?

sorry about the big bout of flu ya'll have been wrestling with. as a dad with 4 kids, i can totally relate to how sickness will trickle through the family. we had the same about a month ago with some sort of cold.

I know I always do this, but... Looks to me like the protrusion there would make the seemingly already tight fit for carseats even worse. Of course, that may not be a problem for you. Sure would like to know though.

Autocool sliding door

Am I ever glad that I signed up for this site! Finally someone has answered my concerns regarding the power sliding door. I've ordered my new Transit and have been talking to several mobility dealers about my needs. Since I'm in a wheelchair, it is imperative that I have an automatic door but the mobility upfitters here in central Alabama all say it's unavailable due to the size and weight of the door. I can't wait to give them the info tomorrow.

To USMC Vet: I too am a disabled combat vet (USAF, Vietnam, 1972) and have been dealing with the VA for 40 years. You are so right about the VA not being the same agency it used to be. They used to care for us vets but now I'm not so sure.
